Dinner
editSaw a mention of an annual dinner to roast the "political elite". Sounds like something worth mentioning... anyone have details? //Blaxthos ( t / c ) 01:15, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- Second article here, actually about the dinner. //Blaxthos ( t / c ) 14:10, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Purpose of Alfalfa Club? Celebrate General Lee's bithday, or just to have an annual dinner?
editI have seen both stories in many places. The former was claimed recently by President Obama, and earlier by Gov. Palin. I am sure the club prefers to promote the dinner explanation and am very wary of it. Given that the club was founded shortly after the Civil War, within a week or so of Lee's January 19th birthday, and that is is unenlighteded enough not to admit women until 1994, the Lee version seems plausible. On the other hand, I prefer getting it right. Thanks!!
