SSPX vs. FSSPX

edit

FSSPX is the official acronym of the official name of the Fraternitas [not ‘Societas’] Sacerdotalis Sancti Pii X , given to that body by its founder, Archbishop Lefebvre, and accordingly used (as far as I can see) everywhere except in the English-speaking world. SSPX is the acronym of the English words Society of St. Pius X, a mistranslation which among other things excludes the all-important fact that only duly ordained clerics can be members of Mgr Lefebvre’s organisation. It is high time to admit that wishful-thinking busybodies have been at work here, and accordingly to restore the official acronym in the English-speaking world. There are enough parish-pump jealousies without this one. Pamino (talk) 10:41, 17 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Clerics of the St. Pius X Society presented as if recognized by the RCC

edit

Hi Pbritti,
(@Pbritti:)
The way that the article currently reads, after reading the lead, one would tend to think that the clerics of this Society of Saint Pius X are fully recognized as the bishops and priests of the Roman Catholic Church. Is that what we really want here, since they are not?
Thanks,

They were consecrated as bishops. Whether or not those consecrations were canonical in the Catholic Church doesn't alter that. Since Wikipedia is a neutral environment, we should not place excessive caveats. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 04:18, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
