Although four (apparently) separate IPs have inserted the statement that Reed died on September 17, 2005, I can find no corroboration of this in Wikipedia, Wikinews, Google News, or the New York Times. Therefore, I have added the {{disuputed}} tag. I would just revert the article again, but I have already made three reversions in the last twenty-four hours, and I don't want to break the three-revert rule. --bdesham 15:35, 20 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Baylor University has a press release out about the death, but I don't consider that confirmation -- they might have been sucked in by the same reports we saw. http://www.baylor.edu/pr/news.php?action=story&story=35789 --SarekOfVulcan 17:50, 20 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Hahahahahaha, looking to Google News and the New York Times for confirmation of a band composer's death, hahahahahahahahaha... SFT 20:16, 16 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

There is additional confirmation on the Bands of American website: http://bands.org/public/resourceroom/honoringreed.asp

Unfortunately it is true

edit

I am a former student of his at the University of Miami and I recieved an email from the family. He did pass on Saturday.

I'm new at this Wikipedia stuff, so forgive me if I'm breaking rules ... There's a brief bio about him the President's Own page, and it has his dates listed at 1921-2005 .... http://www.marineband.usmc.mil/learning_tools/hall_of_composers/reed.htm

Thanks for the citation: looks like it's true after all (you wouldn't believe how many people like to put fake death notices in, so we had to check). And sorry to hear it, too; I'd met him a few times myself and played tons of his band music. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 05:20, 23 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Ancestry

Reed's parents immigrated to the U.S. from Vienna, Austria. Was he of Jewish ancestry? Badagnani 23:39, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism - Works for Orchestra section

edit

I removed text that was obvious vandalism (it read "Putas e vinho verde (2013)"). He is deceased and cannot compose, much less come up with obscene titles. This vandalism came from 188.251.67.204 and I am not sure how to report it. ♪♫Kville105125♫♪ 19:37, 10 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Recently, an IP editor has been adding that his birth name was "Alfred Friedemann von Mark". All the information that I can find detailing his early life simply have him as "Alfred Friedman". Can anyone else corroborate? Why? I Ask (talk) 09:08, 22 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@User:220.244.10.106 If you are going to add a source, please do not lie about what it says. Why? I Ask (talk) 16:56, 22 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
