The WP:COI tag at the top of the page

I want to explain why I tried (now reverted) to delete some parts of the page, and why I placed the template at the top of the page. Please see WP:NOT#OR, point 1, and WP:SOAP, point 4, as well as WP:COI. This edit: [1] made me realize that the material was added by the person who was being cited as the source. The issue is not whether the content is reliable or true, but whether it is appropriate under the policies and guideline to which I linked here. My hope is that we can resolve this concern here; otherwise, I will unfortunately have to go to WP:COIN. --Tryptofish (talk) 01:35, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

The material was indeed published: "published in other venues, such as peer-reviewed journals, other printed forms, open research, or respected online publications" ... And was the reason for the link to "Original first vertical algae scrubber design, posted on aquarium discussion forum August 2008" (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1424843)

...so as to show the published "peer reviewed" location. Also, the aim of the original material was to show readers how to build their own, but this material is now on:

I do realize that you meant well, and I hope you understand that I mean that. But there are good reasons why those links to WP:NOT say what they do. Those are the rules around here, and although I didn't create them, I agree with them. And again, please understand that this has nothing to do with whether the material has been published elsewhere on line or not. Yes I could do that. I am going under the assumption that a filtering device that is being discussed on over 200 forums in 20 languages, and is being DIY'd by over 10,000 people, is worthy of an entry even though I am the inventor of one of the versions. --SantaMonicaMale —Preceding undated comment added 22:27, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

COI revision

Hello, I could not find the edit by Tryptofish 01:35, 20 December 2013, but all the edits on that day seem fine. I'm much better now at writing without self-referencing, so I can fix up any technical errors afterwards. Indeed, several links and text are no longer correct. Ideas to better this information's presence on Wikipedia.

Any help with these ideas is welcome.

The relevant info from this page already has space on the Aquarium filter page.

The term "algae scrubber" is a term almost exclusively used with respect to aquarium filters and nowhere else. The Algae scrubber page should be removed and links to the products and DIY guides that are relevant can then be added to either or all of the Aquarium filter page, the Algae bioreactor page and Algaculture page, which already exist. The later two already do a good job explaining the mechanics and different forms. They could be improved of course.

Redirects for "algae scrubber" should be aimed at the Aquarium filter page, or perhaps a disambiguation page including all of the above pages.

The historical content used here should ideally be divided into a page on Walter Adey about the person and another page that's actually about his Algal Turf Scrubber (700+ Google Scholar results), both of which should probably mention his significant (261 citations) book Dynamic Aquaria: Building Living Ecosystems. (None of which currently has a wikipedia page.)

For what it's worth, "Algal Turf Scrubber" is still a live trademark and actively sold product....so some of the historical information on the current Algae Scrubber page seems to be at least partly dubious. NAClean (talk) 08:39, 25 September 2019 (UTC)
