Picture
editI am concerned the person may not be Ali Matan Hashi. I could be wrong. Can anyone verify that this is him? Also, the picture needs to be resized a little smaller to make sure the article is not overwhelmed by the picture. Feedback would be appreciated. Adamdaley (talk) 05:45, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
- I think part of the issue is that the infobox itself is wide (at least compared to others I regularly see). Changing the picture width to 200px shrank the image, but still leaves this big infobox. (I also didn't see that someone else had already reduced the image before I read your comments; the picture is still relatively large.) I've left it alone for now, though. Also, since the image is hosted on Wikimedia Commons, questions or concerns should be posted to the file's talk page at Commons. (Note that there's still a "reqphoto" template on this page, but if you're not sure the picture is actually about the subject, then maybe it should stay.) -- Gyrofrog (talk) 17:31, 9 December 2010
--- The person is Ali Matan. If you could fix the image issue, please proceed.

Article name
editAt various places in the article, the subject's name has been shortened to "Ali Matan". Which is correct, "Ali Matan" or "Ali Matan Hashi"? The article name should reflect the person's correct name, although really we need a source to establish this. Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 23:11, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Ali Matan is correct. he is my dad..:-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matany (talk • contribs) 23:25, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
- OK, we will need some other source to corroborate this – see WP:SELFCITING. Given your relation to the subject, I will suggest that you please carefully review Wikipedia's guidelines concerning conflict of interest (the close relationships section, in particular). Thank you, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 23:54, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
What kind of source do u need? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matany (talk • contribs) 00:01, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
It does not matter, see this link for ref...http://marehansade.blogspot.com/2007/07/first-somali-man-to-fly-gen-cali-mataan.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matany (talk • contribs) 00:06, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
- I'm confused because the blog posting uses the subject's full name including "Hashi"/"Xaashi". But by "source," I meant a news article, a book, or some such, rather than a blog (see WP:RS). The blog does mention a book, so that may be helpful. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 00:19, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
I will try to find it....Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matany (talk • contribs) 00:33, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
- On the Wikipedia page List_of_Somalis#Pilots, it has him listed as Ali Matan Hashi (Cali Mataan Xaashi). I am also confused. I do not know other languages, I can only find out english versions of the name. Adamdaley (talk) 01:22, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
We can leave him as Cali Mataan Xaashi, the Somali version.... or the old one.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Matany (talk • contribs) 01:27, 11 December 2010
- This being the English Wikipedia, we should use the English spelling (presumably this is what you meant by "the old one"). Note to Adamdaley, "C" in the Somali alphabet is a "voiced pharyngeal fricative" (no English equivalent that I know of, other than the throat opening when one pronounces a vowel at the beginning of a word), and "X" is like the English "H". Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 01:41, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
- User:Gyrofrog, I agree and understand. Maybe we could work together on this article a little to make it a little bigger if we can? Adamdaley (talk) 01:53, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, the old one is the English version. Ok, thanks for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matany (talk • contribs) 02:19, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Changed his ranking from General to Brigadier General. See, http://www.marines.mil/news/publications/Documents/Somalia%20Study_3.pdf page 257. Hi rank in English is Brigadier General. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matany (talk • contribs) 18:37, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Cause of death?
editDid he die of disease or was he killed for his political activities? If he was killed, that would be useful to know. Pete unseth (talk) 16:26, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
