User:Arrigo moved this page from Ali bin Hussein of Hejaz to Ali of Hejaz, explaining with "unnecessary patronymic". I disagree that it is unnecessary. This person is best known as "Ali bin Hussein"; the "of Hejaz" is only there to disambiguate him from the many other people with that name, notably the Shiite imam. It is particularly reasonable, considering that Ali is historically very much in the shadow of his father, King Hussein. Consider the huge number of people who have lived in the region of Mecca and Medina who have been named Ali. We, as Wikipedia editors, know that, by Wikipedia convention, an article titled "Joe of XYZland" means that Joe is the king of XYZland; however, to many of our readers, this is not at all clear. I'm sure there have also been a lot of people named Ali bin Hussein who lived in Hejaz, but this can at least narrow it down a bit. - Nat Krause 02:20, 2 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

The heading of an article cannot do everything. In some cases (this case seems to be one such), it can do quite little, and is important for pre-emptive disambiguation. I believe that any non-monarchical Ali would not be credibly called as "Ali of Hejaz" here, therefore this heading is sufficiently good. And, headings should be kept short - KISS principle. Simplicity helps. Please be reminded that the introductiry paragraph of the article itself is the place to explain imporytamt things about the name or names the person was well-known as.
