New article on aliasing
editAliasing and resolution are discussed briefly in the article Fractional factorial design, but the exposition there is poor and very incomplete. (I do link to that article for an illustrative example.) The present article is designed to fill this gap.
There are two other articles on aliasing, Aliasing and Aliasing (computing). It would be good to change the first one to “Aliasing (signal processing)” in order to put the three articles on the same level. This article mentions the two others at the beginning.
It should be noted that aliasing in fractional factorial designs came first historically, and there is very strong evidence that the term “aliasing” was adopted in signal processing by analogy with this. I intend to put information about this in Aliasing#Historical usage once the present article is accepted. Johsebb (talk) 16:09, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
Note to editors
editI'm eager to read comments that would help put this article into acceptable shape. I'm aware of some things that already need to be changed -- for example, notation (subset, transpose), omitting or correcting the "See also", etc. I have made use of LaTeX uniformly, and I gather that I need to make some displays inline. I have also used the implied second person ("Suppose", "Let", etc.), and I gather that this is not generally approved as part of encyclopedia style (although it appears in other mathematics articles at times). There are undoubtedly other issues as well.
One thing I request: Unless there is a minor technical problem needing correction (for example, html code), I strongly prefer to try to make revisions myself based on suggestions from experienced editors. While I have modified other articles, this is the first article I've authored, and I'm still learning the ropes. I would be more than happy to discuss things with editors -- something I look forward to.
As to the importance of this article, I believe it fills a gap, as I mention in a previous remark (above). I would think that this article is of roughly the same importance as the article on Aliasing, and in fact the concept of aliasing actually originated in this context (factorial experiments) and was adapted later in signal processing for an analogous concept.
Thank you in advance. Johsebb (talk) 22:08, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
Revised version
editI have submitted a revised version that I believe responds to the criticisms of the original draft. Thus my Note to Editors of 5 April 2023 is no longer relevant. Johsebb (talk) 18:28, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
Headings for endmatter
editI have modified the last three section headings after reviewing Notes and references (especially the example given there), offline and online citations, the formats given in Help:Explanatory_notes (especially the last), and Further reading. Based on these sources, I have relabeled these sections Notes, Citations, References. I'm documenting this in advance of any future review. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johsebb (talk • contribs) 18:11, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
