Proposed change to lead sentence
editThe lead sentence is seems somewhat awkward for a woman who lived to be 77 years old. I understand that her actions as a girl had a tremendous impact, and that was the reason for the current wording. I suggest changing the lead to read:
Alice Piper (7 June 1908 – 22 August 1985) was a Paiute (Nüümü) woman, who as a girl residing in Big Pine, California
who petitioned to attend the newly built Big Pine High School in 1923 and was denied entry due to her race.
I've bolded my proposed addition (and struck out one word) above. Courtesy pinging Tsteele71 for their feedback before I go ahead and make the change to the article. Very nice article, by the way. Netherzone (talk) 20:01, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
