GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose):   b (MoS):
  • Some choppy redundancies that I cleaned up in a quick copy edit.
Thanks! Prose is not my strong point... CarpetCrawlermessage me 02:36, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Who in The St Petersburg Times wrote the comment about the song? Other writers are mentioned from other publications.
The reviewer's name was not mentioned in the article, which made me scratch my head. It's the same with The Philadelphia Inquirer. I've used both newspapers since they've really helped me out in many articles, and for some odd reason music articles have no author. :-/ CarpetCrawlermessage me 02:36, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • This quote The only problem is with people who don't know I wrote them. I do them and they think, 'God, he's doing that Cyndi Lauper song is awkward. Just to make sure this is what Shear actually said.
That is exactly what Shear said, from the article. I agreed it was horribly confusing... I don't know if a [sic] should be added. CarpetCrawlermessage me 02:36, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references):   b (citations to reliable sources):   c (OR):
  2. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects):   b (focused):
I wish very much to have any information about the interpretation of the song's lyrics and music. Is there anything from Shear about why he wrote it? What is it supposed to be expressing? How about what reviewers noted of the sound of the song? How is it described? What about Lauper? What attracted her to the song? What does she think it means?
I'll do my best to look. Unfortunately, I do not expect to find anything, since I've searched high and low for such specific information. In all of the Shear interviews I could find, it was only mentioned in passing, and he only addressed the popularity of the song. I randomly read a comment on Youtube that someone said that Shear told them the song was about a one night stand, and I searched high and low for a source, and found no luck. The sound of the song I may be able to find something, but once again the song is not as notable as her other songs from the album (Like "She Bop" and of course "Girls Just Want to Have Fun",) so I can't make any guarantees. And RE: Lauper. Most of the songs on her early albums were cover songs. In fact, Lauper didn't truly begin writing ALL of her own songs for her albums until "Hat Full of Stars". In fact, "Girls" wasn't written by her, and another single, "Money Changes Everything" was a cover of a song by The Brains. I have heard numerous different stories on why she had cover songs on her albums, and all of them from unreliable sources, so I left that alone. Unfortunately, all of the information that is in the article is all I could find. I'll see what I can do, but I can't make any guarantees. CarpetCrawlermessage me 02:36, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
  1. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  2. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
  3. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales):   b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  4. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

This is one of my favorite songs. I remember it very well when it was released, which dates me... The article is on hold right now. Please see to the above points and do whatever you can to find more information about the reason/interpretation of the song. Many GA song articles have a description of the song's lyrics and musical structure or instrumentation. Holds usually last 7 days. If no or insufficient gains are made in that time, I'll delist the article. I'm watching the page. Please let me know if you have questions. --Moni3 (talk) 20:47, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the wonderful review! All fair and valid points. I'll see what I can do, but cannot make any guarantees. CarpetCrawlermessage me 02:36, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
More to be comprehensive instead of skeptical, I searched several music databases, a university library and GoogleBooks and GoogleScholar (last) and found nothing about the interpretation of the lyrics. Bummer. --Moni3 (talk) 13:57, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, that's the problem I went through, too! My university library even has a full Newsday archive... no luck. Legolas was able to find the Music Structure, though, so that's a plus at least. Very glad we were able to expand the article in any way we could at this point. I'll try Google News one more time, but I don't think I'll find anything. We'll see! Legolas found the meaning of the lyrics, in a book! :) Wonderful edit by Legolas. :) Any other issues that you have with the article? CarpetCrawlermessage me 04:55, 30 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
One last edit. Well done, folks. --Moni3 (talk) 12:26, 30 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
