How exactly is Lowenstien a "Watergate figure" (category)? or is this category very broad and his involvement in the "Dump Nixon" movement is all that is alluded to? -- Jmabel 01:31, Aug 25, 2004 (UTC)

Enemies List

edit

I included Lowenstein because he appeared on Nixon's Enemies List. PedanticallySpeaking 14:22, Aug 26, 2004 (UTC)

Wouldn't the Enemies List merit a category of its own, unrelated to Watergate? Both involve Nixon admin dirty tricks, but they are separate matters. -- Jmabel 17:32, Aug 26, 2004 (UTC)

Brutal Mandate

I added a paragraph about his visit to Namibia and the book A Brutal Mandate. TSaad 21:21, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

1968 and '70 elections

edit

If this gets expanded, someone should probably use this, based on Statistics of the Congressional Election of November 3, 1970, official site of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, p. 22 and Statistics of the Congressional Election of November 5, 1968, official site of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, p. 29:

Under New York's unusual system of fusion voting, multiple parties can each endorse the same candidate; thus the same name can appear on multiple ballot lines. In both the 1968 and 1970 election, Lowenstein ran as a Democrat and Liberal; his opponents (incumbent Mason L. Hampton in 1968 and Norman F. Lent in 1970) ran as both Republican and Conservative. The results were as follows:

1968
Candidate Party Votes
Lowenstein Democrat 85,728
Lowenstein Liberal 13,465
Lowenstein Total 99,193
Hampton Republican 76,494
Hampton Conservative 19,933
Hampton Total 96,427

1970
Candidate Party Votes
Lent Republican 69,698
Lent Conservative 23,856
Lent Total 93,824
Lowenstein Democrat 76,093
Lowenstein Liberal 8,645
Lowenstein Total 84,738
Vincent J. Carey Right to Life 5,342

There is no scientifically valid evidence that AKL was killed by a “mentally ill” person. This is opinion which doesn’t belong in the entry. Nicmart (talk) 00:51, 29 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Non-census gerrymandering

edit

I can't find any justification on the internet for the non-census gerrymandering in the 5th NY congressional district in 1970, adding the Republican-dominated Massapequa, and removing the Democrat-dominated Five Towns. Did the Republicans have something to hide? Was this a sneaky way for them to "get rid of" Lowenstein in the 1970 election? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:39FC:C60:C4CE:2131:CAE4:CECB (talk) 02:47, 26 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Norm Lent

edit

@Go4thProsper: Where do you get your claim (in an edit summary) that "Lent was also a Democrat"? He ran in 1970 (and in subsequent elections) as a Republican and Conservative. I have never before heard any suggestion that Lent was ever a Democrat. - Jmabel | Talk 21:25, 12 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
