Requested move 11 May 2018
editThis discussion was listed at Wikipedia:Move review on 19 May 2018. The result of the move review was endorsement implicit (procedural close). |

The result of the move request was: disambiguate. The combination of metals Alloy dominates page views; this is a plausible misspelling. wbm1058 (talk) 17:07, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
– The rapper's page has gotten an average of 12 daily views for the last 3 years, ever since the character page was created it averaged in the hundreds. Clearly the rapper is not the primary topic, but I would go so far as to say the character is the primary topic. Neither of them have much long term significance, so importance is to be gauged on general public interest and the likelihood of viewers to want one page over the other. I also think that making Aloy a disambiguation is acceptable if this is a WP:NOPRIMARY situation. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 11:12, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support 2nd move; neutral on 1st per nom. Not sure if the character is the primary topic either, so I'd support making a disambiguation page at the basename of "Aloy". Paintspot Infez (talk) 16:21, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support as proposed. The rapper seems to be a minor figure, probably not even meeting the WP:MUSICBIO notability guideline. -- Netoholic @ 18:38, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support moving this page to Aloy, and perhaps even taking Aloy (rapper) for deletion, as they don't seem notable. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 19:52, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- Comment have deprodded the Aloy rapper as it had been prodded and deprodded before, and have moved it to Aloy (rapper) without a redirect so Aloy is free for what you decide Atlantic306 (talk) 17:27, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose. Aloy is a common misspelling of alloy (see https://www.google.com/search?q=aloy+metal and particularly try image search) and should redirect there, rather than to either of these notable but not generally famous topics. Andrewa (talk) 23:13, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- "aloy metal" using quotes gets 14,500 results, while "aloy" horizon (showing the character) gets 235,000, so this does not appear to be as common as you stated. Searching "aloy" metal just nets results for the metal flowers in the game. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 00:56, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
- Disagree... those are rather strange searches! Andrewa (talk) 02:03, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
- A "distinguish" hatnote can address any confusion... but going so far as to make it a primary redirect, I think not.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 04:53, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
- It should go whichever way we decide best supports general reader experience. Certainly a hatnote will get the reader there eventually whichever way we go. But to me, hatnotes on the articles on the rapper and/or on the video game heroine seem out of place somehow. Remembering that English Wikipedia is for all English speakers not just native speakers, and that alloy and aloy are homophones, the redir from common mispelling, with a hatnote there to the two other articles, seems a good choice to me. In an internal Wikipedia search list of course the unambiguous article names will both appear, whether as redirects or article names, and the reader will get the correct article with one more click. External search engines may be more of a problem. Andrewa (talk) 09:05, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

- Support: The move from Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn) to Aloy makes sense per the arguments given. Cognissonance (talk) 08:21, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

RM
editWhat? The requested move ended early with a result of "disambiguate" despite more support going with just Aloy? This should be reopened. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 20:52, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Dissident93: The original 7-day listing period had expired, though someone else moved Aloy → Aloy (rapper) before the listing period lapsed, causing this to show up in the "malformed requests section". This was borderline for a relisting, but I just made the more limited move to disambiguation as there was a clear consensus for at least going that far. Feel free to open a new RM for Aloy → Aloy (disambiguation) and Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn) → Aloy, as a defacto relisting of the above, if you want to. – wbm1058 (talk) 23:51, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
- It should have been closed with no consensus then, as there is slightly more support for moving this page to just Aloy than having Aloy as a disambiguation page. Not sure why you think there is a clear consensus either way. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 00:21, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- There was a clear consensus for moving the rapper off of WP:primary topic status. When there is no consensus for a primary topic, we disambiguate. wbm1058 (talk) 00:57, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- One person discussed an uncommon misspelling of "alloy", and now all of a sudden its worth creating an entire disambiguate page over? The rapper's article should be taken to AfD due to lack of notability, leaving this article as the only real search result for "Aloy". ~ Dissident93 (talk) 06:43, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

An editor has asked for a Move review of Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn). Because you closed the move discussion for this page, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the move review. Netoholic @ 07:23, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
Doesn't a general agreement of moving this page to Aloy already submit it is the primary topic? There was also a suggestion of a hatnote at the top of the article regarding alloy to disambiguate the term, which makes the devotion of an entire page unnecessary. Cognissonance (talk) 07:41, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
Since Aloy (rapper) has been deleted, and since the character is now the only "Aloy" on Wikipedia, the qualified title Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn) has been moved to Aloy. Painius put'r there 17:09, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
PS ...and Aloy (disambiguation) is currently no longer needed. PS left by Painius put'r there 13:38, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
Inspiration
editI think it's worth mentioning somewhere that Aloy was inspired by Ygritte and Ellen Ripley https://www.gamesradar.com/horizons-aloy-ripley-and-ygritte-combined-s-where-we-started/ --SiberianDante (talk) 04:11, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
