With all due respect, my name is Alper (I'm Turkish, too)) and i realized that a mistake has been done in the meaning of the compound word. The correct meaning is as follows:
Alp=brave or hero er=soldier (rank of private in today's modern Turkish) In certain contexts "er" also mean "male" person.
