Hey, what if it actually was started by those two men? I think it was. That's not astroturfing. You're quick to jump on people. --Psycho78m 12:02, 5 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

The label was setup by the Dead Kennedys in order that they could release 'California Uber Alles'. The band was, at the time, a partnership, with East Bay Ray and Jello Biafra being the main two characters for all intents and purposes... it's pretty much a straight shot that the BAND setup the label, and Jello was the guy who took over the running of the joint. To be absolutely correct, it's likely best to have the credit for creation of the label go to the band as it existed in the late 70s... Xinit 20:40, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, but it wasn't really a label until Biafra compiled Let Them Eat Jellybeans and started signing other artists. Yes, that was when Dead Kennedys were still a going concern. -- Cjmarsicano 21:03, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
True enough, but this is one of those things that I've seen nothing attributable from either side... Jello doesn't claim to be the sole founder, and Ray doesn't claim to be the sole founder, so there must be another answer, no? Xinit 21:12, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re-write

edit

I've made some changes to the main text (but not the side-bar, I just noticed) regarding the origin of the label and added sections for legal troubles. Honestly, in all the reverting it would seem that the writing itself has become muddled and imprecise.

There is nothing that I've been able to find that I can reference that states Jello Biafra was (or even claims to have been) the sole founder of the label. If anything, the BAND founded the label; not Jello, not East Bay Ray, and not even the pair of them together.

I removed mention of the court case brought on by the PMRC for now. It should be in here if it was brought against the label, but regardless, it was in need of a re-write to apply to the label.

While it's not applicable to the wiki entry, anyone who's interested in the trial, the band(s), and the personalities might also find this of interest: [redacted linkspam] Xinit 21:19, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Album covers on Alternative Tentacles website

edit

I've contacted the Press Department of Alternative Tentacles Records regarding their stance on using album covers under fair use on Wikipedia. They were very helpful, here's the transcript:

From: press@alternativetentacles.com
To: AxiomShell

Hi there
yeah, it's fine with us if you want to put the cover images on wikipedia.
i can send you super hi res versions if you want but they will probably eat up your mailbox.
i think the covers that are on our site are probably fine.
Thanks!

The covers on the website aren't of a very good quality for wikipedia standards (120px wide), but we know they can be used.

List of bands

edit

I would rather have the lists than the unnecessary tables. Best would be a columned list, where the the reader could see most of the information on the screen at once. An example would be the artist list for Gagosian Gallery.--Knulclunk (talk) 13:06, 22 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
