The result of the move request was: Move. We have consensus that there's no primary topic of the name "Alun Lewis", and it should be disambiguated. I'll clean up the dab page(s) accordingly. Cúchullain t/c 15:36, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
– Poet is not more significant than rugby union player or actor of exact similar name. Also, the name has a "u" instead of the second "a". There is only one Alan Lewis, a cricketer; majority of the dabpage has three Aluns and one Alan. George Ho (talk) 23:21, 30 October 2015 (UTC) --Relisted. - Oppose Alun Lewis is the only one of these topics that has any real encyclopedic value - as seen in Google Books In ictu oculi (talk) 01:14, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- To rebut your rationale, IIO, here are stats: Poet (last 90 days), actor (last 90 days), rugby player named Alun Lewis. I don't see how most significant the poet is by reading the article. Writing many poems do not make him the most significant but significant enough for a stand-alone article. The actor is the most popular
; once the poet is disambiguated, the poet will no longer be as viewed as it will be used to be.and always has been. --Georgie says "Happy Halloween!" (BOO!) 03:37, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

- Relisting comment: If this had to be closed today, it would be No consensus. Those who commented should think about the wisdom of giving the title Alan Lewis to the cricket player and not using it for the DAB. Why should Alun Lewis contain the DAB for both Alan and Alun, when *Alan* is four times more common. IIO's proposal that Alun Lewis should be reserved for the poet seems contradicted by the actor being viewed more here on Wikipedia. Are we sure the poet will have more long-term significance than the actor? EdJohnston (talk) 04:54, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- There are three articles about people called Alun Lewis, more common than Alan Lewis, which is only one article. Peter James (talk) 17:38, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- Support move to
eitherAlun Lewis, as there's no primary topic - it's unsurprising that a writer's more likely to be the author of, or mentioned in, books, and that the actor's article gets more page views here. The content indicates that this is the disambiguation page for Alun Lewis, not Alan Lewis, so if there's a primary topic for both it should be moved to Alun Lewis (disambiguation). Peter James (talk) 17:33, 7 November 2015 (UTC) - Support. The stats provided by George (which show the actor's article is the most popular) and IIO's claim of long-term significance for the poet are both excellent arguments for there not being a primary topic. All Alun Lewises should be dab'd and the dab page should go at the base location. Additionally, the current set-up, where the dab page is at "Alan Lewis" but the majority of the people listed there are called "Alun Lewis", is nonsensical. Jenks24 (talk) 05:26, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- Definitely split these, because it's confusing to see them listed in the same list when the given name is different (Alun (given name), not Alan (given name)). --Joy [shallot] (talk) 19:56, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- I restructured the dabpage, Joy. No need to split. George Ho (talk) 02:43, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

split Alan from Alun
editIt's still arbitrary, why would Alan Lewis (disambiguation) have to be merged into this page? I don't see how that's not at least a bit confusing to the readers. If the criterion is that they're homophones, that still doesn't make sense because that's contrary to common practice, and more specifically Allan Lewis (disambiguation) and Allen Lewis (disambiguation) are not merged in here, so it's inconsistent. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 01:22, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
- There is only one Alan Lewis. There isn't any other; just three Alun Lewises. --George Ho (talk) 02:18, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
- Joy: There was no merge. There's only one "Alan Lewis" so it doesn't need a dab page at all (I've deleted the redirect). For whatever reason, the former dab page "Alan Lewis (disambiguation)" contained Alan Lewis and three Alun Lewis's but not Al, Allan, or Allen Lewis's, so it made the most sense to change the name to reflect the Aluns.--Cúchullain t/c 18:17, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for dropping the redirect, that's what I was after. I suppose we could have also moved the mention of Alan and Brad Alan over there, but that would easily be interepreted as a violation of WP:TWODABS rather than an anthroponymy article. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 20:07, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
