Talk:Amadeus Quartet

Latest comment: 13 years ago by Louis Calvete

According to Muriel Nissel in her book "Married to the Amadeus", they played together for the first time in the summer of 1947 under the name Brainin Quartet. The first concert under the name Amadeus, at the Wigmore Hall, is shown on a poster as the 10th January 1948 at 3 pm. Louis Calvete

Was it founded in 1947 or 1948? I've seen two slightly different opinions here.

Still trying to find the name of the 2nd violin. -- David Martland 21:02 26 May 2003 (UTC)

I think I've sorted out the members now, but the date is still slightly uncertain. -- David Martland 21:10 26 May 2003 (UTC)

Grove Concise says they were founded in 1947 and the Penguin Dictionary says they made their debut in 1948 - I suspect that's where the confusion arises. --Camembert
