I inserted a public domain illustration of Amalickiah. Prsaucer1958 (talk) 14:16, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Is etymology appropriate?

edit

I'm inclined to keep the section "Proposed Etymology," but I'm concerned about the value of it. I don't know how much it really adds to understanding of Amalickiah to know that his name could be reconstructed into "My king is Jah". Anyone have any feedback?BenBeckstromBYU (talk) 21:54, 22 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Should we add a Cultural Impact section?

edit

There are a lot of cultural depictions of Amalickiah, ranging from Tennis Shoes among the Nephites to comparisons between him and Satan in conference talks. However, due both to "weight" guidelines and a lack of secondary sources bolstering this, I'm hesitant to put that in. Any feedback would be more than welcomed.BenBeckstromBYU (talk) 21:56, 22 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

You totally could. In my mind, it seems like he's always been one of the primary villains of the Book of Mormon. This isn't made clear anywhere in the article as it stands.
Are the Tennis Shoes books and aforementioned Conference talks not a sufficient number or weight of secondary sources to support a section for this? HighprinceofPluto (talk) 05:26, 19 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi @HighprinceofPluto! My major concern is I'm having trouble finding a reputable secondary source that reflects the huge amount of primary sources that portray him as a primary villain. Any ideas on what I could mine there? BenBeckstromBYU (talk) 14:13, 19 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, you mean like a scholarly or non-LDS author, then? HighprinceofPluto (talk) 20:05, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ideally something academic, yeah. Also, is your username a Sanderson ref? BenBeckstromBYU (talk) 22:25, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
heh yeah it is. And sheesh yeah it's quite hard to find a source that's non-LDS talking about this! HighprinceofPluto (talk) 18:55, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
