Inspiration
edit- - The inspiration for the game: The idea behind AMBER began back in 1985, on Frank and Susan Wimmer's honeymoon. "We had seen a story on the CBS Morning News about a place often reputed to be 'The Most Haunted House in America,'" Frank recalls. "The house, the Myrtle's Plantation, is in Saint Francisville, Louisiana, just outside of New Orleans. Built in 1796, the house has been the site of 10 murders and one suicide. Conveniently for us, it had recently been converted to a bed and breakfast. We were intrigued by the possibility of actually seeing a ghost -- so much that we actually decided it would be a great place for our honeymoon. As we approached the house in our rental car, it was classic horror film atmosphere: pitch black night with an all-out thunderstorm. Just as we were about to turn into the driveway, lightning flashed, casting light on the 'for sale' sign in the front yard. At that point, we were a little intimidated -- we imagined that the activity might have become too much for the owners, and so it might be too much for us. We actually debated whether we should turn around and leave. But, our curiousity won out -- we decided to give it a go..." - - I think when we first drove up, we were still in that mindset that this was a lark," Susan adds. "We were definitely skeptical at first. In fact, we even took along a ouija board with us, because we thought it would be a kick. After a few nights in the house, however, we no longer took it so lightly. Ultimately, we didn't actually see any ghosts, but we did have several unusual experiences that made us much less skeptical. For example, we stayed in a bedroom which had been the nursery when the house was a functioning plantation. Occasionally we could hear a music box playing in the room and we never could find any apparent explanation. We later learned that it was one of the more common sound hauntings reported in the house. That, and several other strange occurences at the house, really opened our minds to the existence of ghosts. It also increased our interest in the paranormal, to the point that we eventually wanted to create AMBER." (These comments come from the Hue Forest website, now defunct)

- Hi Drrngrvy, I changed my mind about including it. You see, I actually created this article: Nomanee, 156.34.217.14, PGriffin2, Ruegen, Yumpizza, Table3, Ajb96 are all the same person...me. That's how I added all the references. I removed the Inspiration part because all of that is in the Hue Forest Entertainment archived website (see References) anyway so people can read it at the source. There is also a Making Of article and Developer History at that website. I felt that copying (and citing of course) all of this information from there would make this article very shoddy so I opted to remove what I copied. Nomanee2 03:36, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Weak opposeSupport [see comments below] According to Moby Games, AMBER stands for Astral Mobility By Electromagnetic Resonance. If I'm interpreting the MOS correctly, this makes it an acronym and potentially eligible for all upper case. Admittedly it's not the strongest source in the world, but why would they make it up? - Support. We dont "need" to capitalize it unless its the way independent sources usually write it. Moby Games uses all caps, but Gamespot, IGN, Gamespy, Pibweb, and nearly all other references I can find by Googling prefer the lowercase version. WP:MOSTM is less important here than WP:COMMONNAMES. - Oppose. I've played AMBER: Journeys Beyond. AMBER is actually an acronym used in the game and is spelled in all uppercase letters on the box, in the manual, on the title screen, and throughout the game. I created a redirect when I originally typed up this article because the misspelling "Amber" is quite common. I hope this helps. DillPickle50 (talk) 03:16, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
