In my opinion this article needs to be expanded but I cannot find any independent references regarding the institute. I am a structural engineer and anyone working in steel in the U.S. uses the Steel Construction Manual published by the AISC. I don't have verifiable proof of this, I just KNOW it. Responding to MiriamPschtto, this definitely needs to be expanded. The Steel Manual is used all across the country, and in some other countries as well. Perhaps we can reference the IBC, which incorporates AISC 360 by reference? Most Beautiful Steel Bridge

At least two bridge articles mention their bridges won the American Institute of Steel Construction's "Most Beautiful Steel Bridge" award from the 1930s. Unfortunately, information about this award seams to be limited to the plaques physically adorning the wining bridges.
