Page organization

Suggestion for how to manage this page: have two sections:

1 - current members
2 - previous members, including brief note about when/why they left. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ajost1960 (talkcontribs) 18:25, 15 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
1 - would suggest adding a reference to the President's Strategic and Policy Forum and vice versa. the two are easily confused but 2 distinct groups of people.
2 - NYT has a good summary. might be worth calling out the circumstances of departure no matter what, similar to their chart: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/08/15/business/trump-councils.html --Liminary (talk) 22:14, 15 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Looking for official announcement of the American Manufacturing Council [emphasis added]

edit

But I haven't found one.

My search (on Aug 15, 2017): google "American Manufacturing Council: site:whitehouse.gov returns one hit: the Jan 27, 2017 press release: President Trump Announces Manufacturing Jobs Initiative (See Below). — Preceding unsigned comment added by CmdrDan (talkcontribs) 00:08, 16 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

President Trump Announces Manufacturing Jobs Initiative

edit

I did, however, find this Jan 27, 2017, announcement from the White House President Trump Announces Manufacturing Jobs Initiative which is identical to the the New York Times list of the American Manufacturing Council after correcting the White House's in-formalities and mis-spellings, "Ken(neth) Frazier," "MarilynN Hewson,," "Richard T[r]umka," and "Rich(ard) Kyle." — Preceding unsigned comment added by CmdrDan (talkcontribs) 00:08, 16 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thea Lee: change of position @ AFL-CIO?

edit

I changed title for Thea Lee to "Deputy Chief of Staff" from "Deputy Chief of Staff (former)" as I cannot find any reference for this and, moreover, I believe, I may have added this "(former)" text to in error when transforming the bullet lists to the table.

Here is link to Thea Lee's tweet "AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and I have resigned from the Manufacturing Council." — Preceding unsigned comment added by CmdrDan (talkcontribs) 15:55, 16 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Idea: Date of departure

edit

Considering a lot of CEOs resigned, maybe we should seperate membership status. One half is devoted to direct date of departure (eg. Kenneth Frazier resigned on August 14th, 2017) and the other devoted to explaining their choice for resigning (eg. Dissatisfied due to President Trump's handling of Charlottesville riots). I was thinking of adding an invisible sort key with the date of membership termination (date of disbandment for most). I would keep the group together. It's sufficiently small and manageable, and now that it's been disbanded, it's not like it will grow over time. TJRC (talk) 22:08, 16 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
I've now added that sort key. TJRC (talk) 22:31, 16 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Importance of precise departure time

edit

Johnson and Johnson hasn't (at this time) even posted a press release yet saying they were withdrawing, and the earliest mention anywhere that I can find is [1] - a full 24 minutes after Trump announced on Twitter that the council was ending [2]. The first citation listed doesn't even have the letters "johnson" anywhere on the page, and the second does not reference whether it occurred before or after. Very quickly running the risk of cyclical referencing, where wiki references an article that has, itself, referenced wiki. Brianlamere (talk) 19:49, 16 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

This appears to be a reliable source saying he had made the decision prior to the Trump tweet. See also J&J's statement. Their Twitter feed also says "CEO Alex Gorsky resigned from the Council, prior to disbandment. We refuse to stand with those who spread hate." In sum, I think it's reliable that Gorski resigned prior to disbandment, even if it didn't make news until after news of disbandment. (After all, reporters monitor Trump's Twitter feed and report on his tweets instantly.) TJRC (talk) 22:55, 16 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Where is a time-stamped statement? Can you find something time-stamped that is actually before the Trump announcement? Your link to the JNJ twitter post is almost 5 hours older than the Trump announcement. Again, very high risk of cyclical sourcing here - with such a close call, it is easier to say JNJ didn't leave before announcement, and let external sources suss out independent of wiki. Having it listed as contended is at least useful. Brianlamere (talk) 02:54, 17 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
I don't think we sweat that. We report what's been reported by reliable resources. Looking for time-stamped statements to do what is effectively investigative reporting on our own is WP:OR. TJRC (talk) 07:02, 17 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Pictures of CEOs and companies

edit

One of the requested features for this article is the inclusion of photographs. I would suggest adding pictures of the CEOs who were in the council alongside the logos of their companies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ankeitte (talkcontribs) 10:32, 16 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
