editThe first line of the TREATMENT section reads "AFB spores are present in virtually every hive." This statement needs a reference, as it is a very bold claim. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.235.97.163 (talk) 06:02, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Dubious
editClaim of presence in nearly every hive
editI've flagged this statement as dubious for review. This may be a regional statistic but certainly isn't globally applicable. In New Zealand in 2009 an inspection of 344 hives by AsureQuality, the agency who run the national AFB control plan found 17 infected (5%)[1]. Does anyone have further information on this?
- I agree. In Czech republic, foulbrood is a notifiable disease and the diseased hives are destroyed, together with all hives in the area. All hives around the source are tested, samples cultivated or PCR done for five subsequent years. If the spores were present in every hive, we would have a serious problem. --85.71.27.102 (talk) 19:27, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
