Merge?

edit

I didn't propose the idea, but it's worth thinking about whether Americas Rugby Championship and Americas Rugby Cup should be merged. The tournaments have the same name (the wiki page titled "Cup" is incorrectly titled). And four of the six teams are the same, they are just adding two more. I personally, for now atleast, opt against this, as we do not yet know for sure the World Rugby Americas Rugby Championship has ended so that the new one can go ahead. What I suggest, rename the original Americas Rugby Championship article as World Rugby Americas Rugby Championship as ultimately that is what it is called as per, World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup, World Rugby Nations Cup and son on. The new tournament can then solely called The Americas Rugby Championship as per The Rugby Championship in the Southern Hemisphere. Rugby.change (talk) 17:26, 14 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
To be honest the situation seems a bit of a mess. The authorities in USA have described the rejigged 6 nations 2016 edition as the 'inaugural tournament' - there's clearly the idea of a clean break with any tournament previously called the Americas Rugby Championship, which makes creating a wiki page under that title...challenging. On the other hand its far from clear which of the two names they'll choose - not least because it does seem they hope the unofficial 'Americas 6 nations' monicer will take off. (A name I assume they can't actually use officially for intellectual property reasons)

It looks like the official name of the tournament is the Americas Rugby Championship, so I believe the two articles should be merged. I'm basing this on the logo on the official twitter account: https://twitter.com/americasrch Grande (talk) 20:05, 1 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
The articles should be merged as they are clearly linked, but with records kept separate, and discussion of the prior incarnations of the event before its revamping. Greenman (talk) 21:58, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
If you look at the World Rugby Tournaments list, there is only one "Americas Rugby Championship" in 2016, and the previous tournaments all shared the same name. Yes, I appreciate the references to inaugural tournaments, but the first European Rugby Champions Cup was referred to as inaugural (despite the Heineken Cup), as I'm sure the Six Nations was to, and so on, and so on. I don't see a similar tournament being run later this year, and the teams are the same (EDIT: I've just seen the teams aren't exactly the same - but the majority of the nations are)- so I believe the pages should be merged, with the records suggestion from above if needed.
