Succeded by Selim el hoss ?
editDefinetely not ! Selim el hoss was never the president of Lebanon. Maybe some part consider him as prime minister back then ! Succeeded should be by Rene Moawad or Elias el hroui , depend on how you see it
René Moawad "internationally recognised"?
editMaybe. But his appointment was unconstitutional. Aoun was leader according to the constitution. There is no "debate" about it. Rm uk 09:15, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe. If you know the history of the time period (you probably know it better than I do), it wasn't exactly a clean clear cut situation. The Civil war was coming to an end, but it was not finished. It is a fact that the National Assembly appointed René president. As far as I know he was technically qualified to fill the post according to the Constitution. Anyone has a right to disagree with what they did (Obviously some people disagreed strongly enough that they killed him), but we can't rewrite history because we think it was wrong. 'Amine' or 'Amin'?
editThe first spelling is adopted here, but the second also appears to have some validity, perhaps in other languages. Could someone who understands the usage add a short comment? - Earthlyreason
Amine is usually the French transliteration, and Amin is usually the English transliteration. Both, however, are acceptable. But, definately, Amin is better in English.
Also, further point to be edited, as I am not registered on Wikipedia:
When Gemayel returned from his self-imposed exile, he formed the Kataeb Oppostion or the "al-mu'aridah al-kataebiyyeh," not the "al-qaeda al-kataebiyyeh." Now, however, the two have been united. A.G. is the "Higher President" of the party, and former mainstreat Kataeb leader Pakradouni is now A.G.'s number two, party "President." Since elections, too, other internal Kataeb leader like Mansur al-Hajj have come back into the party fold, publicly on Gemayel's side.
Thanks to whoever fixes this.
- Amine is the proper way to spell his name.
Last year Pakradouni resigned and Gemayel is the only leader now. [1] --80.222.241.189 (talk) 12:23, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Working for peace is radical?
edit"While his younger brother Bashir was regarded as a political radical... hinting at a possible peace settlement with Israel"
Sounds a bit strange to me. Bad wording maybe? TFighterPilot (talk) 15:48, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- Not radical for an American maybe, but internally, yes, that's very radical. FunkMonk (talk) 17:15, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
