Etymology

"It is the diminutive form of Naïs," - I would assume it's the other way around - Naïs is the diminutive of Anaïs! Also, French wikipedia says Anais comes from "Anne" - now what? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.219.56.34 (talk) 11:08, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Any objection to moving this page to Anaïs? That is by far the most common spelling of this word, so I don't know why the main page isn't there (with redirect from Anais). --KarlB (talk) 03:41, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Resolving contradictory information about the timeframe for the origin of the name "Anaïs"

This article states: "There is no account of the name in France before the middle of the nineteenth century..." -BUT- There is a Wikipedia entry for Anaïs Aubert a/k/a "Mademoiselle Anaïs" born in Toury, France in 1802. There is no indication in the entry that this was not her given name at birth. This suggests that unless she was the first person to ever be given this name that it probably originated sometime in the mid-to-late 18th century. At a minimum it confirms that the above referenced quote is inaccurate.
