Ex pat comment
editAlways learning in Wikpedia. I never knew a good Annang speaker spoke with proverbs. What I did know, was that using Annang proverbs and stories made sure my translator could not twist my meaning as a young Peace Corps helping villages. My hobby was to collect stories, which was easy to do as Udoh Ukot. "What do you do when you see a man hanging by one rope from a palm tree?" or my favorite which is from Itu Mbuazo, probably not proper Annang, "what is a one footed animal?" or in other words, "why are there still old people around?" I can think of two times in Annang proper, that proverb/story helped unify a village.
A little embrassed, just posted a map of an area that probably includes Annangs from the 1950's British perspective. I scanned it at work and left the book there, so it can not be cited properly. I also included Ikat and I am sure that somebody who knows more than me will take exception. Please do and comment. I did not include INI in my red outline, which was part of Ikot Ekpene Division, Annang Province just prior to Biafra. --Rcollman 02:45, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Language Issue
editThis has already causes a bit of trouble on the related Ibibio Language page. Within the area where the Annangs live, there are several mutually intelligible languages (as similar as italian and spanish). Of these, there are 3 large groups: Ibibio, Annang, and Efik . They number 3million, 2 million and 800thousand speakers respectively. These languages, together, are referred to as Ibibio-Efik. The word "Ibibio-Efik" describes a group of about 10 different languages. However, Annang, Efik and Ibibio should all have their individual wikipedia page, due to the size of native speakers. Both Ibibio and Efik have been granted wikipedia pages, after a long dispute, but Annang still redirects to the shared page. Please add a single Page for the Annang language, so it can be developed. It's a distinct language from the other two. Wikifying
editI have tried to wikify the article and fix the references (adding ISBN's where I could find them). I would change the references to footnotes if I knew the right place to add them. Since I did not (except for one footnote) I made them into references. My problem is that I do not know the subject matter. Please ask me if I can be of more help. For example, if someone knows where the footnotes should go, I can add them in the right place. Sincerely, –Mattisse (Talk) 01:50, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Fattening Room
editThis section contains unreferenced material that does not appear fact based, instead presents as a rant or argument. Needs to be revised, either remove argumentative parts or add proper citations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kit298299 (talk • contribs) 20:44, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure it was a rant or argument, but it was copyvio. I've replaced it with some sourced material - this really needs expansion and could be a separate article, lots of sources. Dougweller (talk) 12:49, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
Connection to Ibibio people
editSince at least 2008, one user who appears to have an agenda has been removing reference to the Ibibio people from Anaang articles. This is not my area and I have no idea what the connection is (or isn't), but these articles could stand to be checked by someone who knows the topic. Thanks!
