Fanfic gone amok?

edit

To quote:" The very name "Anakin Solo" is a perfect example of fan fiction syndrome."

Since Anakin Solo appears in officialy licenced novels, can his name be a result of so called fan fiction syndrome? --Drhaggis 03:53, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Of course not. Good thing that's been removed. --maru 01:12, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Oh, it's definitely true. A sixteen-year old badass warrior whom everyone in the universe admires and who has a hot blonde wanting to jump his bones? You can't get more Gary Sue than that. However, I agree that there's no real way to say that encyclopedically (unless there's a prominent-enough article talking about fan-fiction syndrome which specifically references him; I highly doubt that). Fan Fiction syndrome actually refers to the tendancy of fan fiction or any derivative works to be much more likely to propose new characters and situations that are similar to old characters and situations then the original authors would be themselves. For example, if there is going to be another worm character the author calls it "Zorba the Hutt, father of Jaba the Hutt" as opposed to simply doing an entirely unrelated worm character.

Expanding

edit

I feel like we should expand his Yavin IV section. There're a lot of things that happened during the Junior Jedi Knight series. Jacen and Jaina have their own long childhood section splitting into the different books of the YJK series, why not do the same with Anakin (and Tahiri) as well? —Mirlen 18:09, 21 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Clean Up

edit

The Jedi Academy section needs a bit of clean up. It sounds like a 4th grader's book report to me. --Phoenix Hacker 00:16, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The whole article needs a clean up, as well as a style rewrite. —Mirlen 01:07, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Anakin s.jpg

edit

Image:Anakin s.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 21:19, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

In-universe

edit

Anyone seriously interested in improving the article should consider adding some real world related info, e.g. regarding the concept, creation, and/or function of the character within the Star Wars narrative etc. Please consult our writing about fiction guideline, which also includes a list of exemplary articles.

There are currently three featured articles on Star Wars characters: Palpatine, Padmé Amidala, and Jabba the Hutt. What sets them aside from most of the other SW character articles is the effort to write from the real world perspective. Pay particular attention to paragraphs like Jabba the Hutt#Concept and creation, Palpatine#Concept and creation, and Padmé Amidala#Characterization.

Also take a look at Darth Vader, which despite its lack of reliable, published third-party secondary sources features interesting sections on e.g. #Character creation and concepts and Darth Vader as a #Cultural figure.

Even though reliable sources may be tough to come up with, any effort to introduce coherently written real world aspects will be greatly appreciated, because it contributes to the depth of the article and accurate coverage of the topic, and thereby makes for an improved reading experience and increases the encyclopedic value of the article.

After looking at other articles on fictional characters, including some who've been featured articles, I've thought about adding a publication section to detail where the character appears throughout Star Wars publications and when he made those appearances. This will help start to give that "real world perspective." Jmulsers (talk) 15:31, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looking to Expand

edit

I just got done working on a publication history for Anakin. It's not well referenced but I plan to do more work on this over the next several weeks. Any feedback and contributions are welcomed Jmulsers (talk) 04:23, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Should we include a section on Anakin's portrayal such as his personality? I've included a brief one about his younger days in the Publication History and see a few pieces of it being discussed in the Plot Details. I think once I've got enough within the Publication history, the section might be placed after the plot details. Jmulsers (talk) 18:22, 28 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Good idea, but please bear in mind that such info should still be put in the context of the narration as far as it relies on primary sources. Or alternatively, secondary sources and 1.5 sources (such as interviews) should be provided to make it clear that the section/info on the portrayal of the personality are being discussed in the context of the production rather than the narrative. Currently, I'm only looking at secondary sources. I've looked for primary and 1.5 sources but haven't come up with anything. Within the next week, I'll be looking into the New Jedi Order for portrayals like I've done with the references to the Junior Jedi Knights series. It won't go into too much depth like the plot history does, but if I do find good items too include, a subheading for what I've included so far on his portrayal may be helpful. Until then, I plan to keep the article the way it is and add to it from there. Jmulsers (talk) 13:21, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Added more to the publication history with Anakin's portrayal in the New Jedi Order. There are probably more details that could be found from the series but I think it's a good start for a general idea of the character. Jmulsers (talk) 01:18, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
