editWhy does this article call it an analog telephony adapter? All of the products that the article mentions/depicts as examples are named analog *telephone* adapters by their manufacturers. I have never heard it called a telephony adapter before, and suggest that this article be renamed unless it can be demonstrated that telephony adapter is a more common name. --Miken2005 08:35, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Not just phones and not just VoIP
editATAs are not just used to connect telephones. Fax machines, answering machines, modems, etc. are equally usable. The ATA is also not a VoIP-specific box. ATAs have been used for some time to connect fax machines and other POTS devices to PBX/key systems that otherwise only allow proprietary sets to be used, or to ISDN lines or Centrex service. Thus, claiming that an ATA is a box to connect phones to VoIP is only true in certain, recent cases, and so this article needs a lot of rework there. --Miken2005 08:35, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
