Name

edit

there is no name update. The species name is Anasaitis canosa, please moved the page name back to its proper name Phiditude (talk) 04:30, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Phiditude and Angela.hummingbird: see here. The genus name is masculine, so all specific names that are adjectives must have the appropriate ending. Peter coxhead (talk) 09:43, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
GB Edwards looked into it...yeah..."It is changed in the World Spider Catalog. It is because of Saitis from which Anasaitis is derived. While often nouns that end in -is are feminine, Saitis is gender masculine (meaning "citizen of Sais"), therefore, any word derived from it is also masculine. Any associated specific epithet that is adjectival (ends in -a for feminine, -us for masculine) will be changed accordingly. So, sorry, it is Anasaitis canosus from now on (I don't like it either, but oh well)." Phiditude (talk) 16:49, 5 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
