False/Misleading Information
editThe article currently includes the following sentence in its description of why the situation in Al Anbar deteriorated over 2003-2004: "For example, if Iraqi insurgents set off a land mine, the US would respond by dropping bombs on those houses with arms caches; when insurgents fired a mortar round at American positions near Fallujah, the Americans responded with heavy artillery." The line cites Bing West's book as a source. I don't have that book handy, but this line is false. I am not sure if this practice began later (2004 or after) or if the line is misrepresenting what West said or if West is just wrong. I'll try and get my hands on a copy of West's book to see the original line, but something in wrong here. Everything else the article describes in this section were reasons why the Al Anbar situation worsened, but heavy artillery and bombing houses wasn't used much in Al Anbar at least between March 2003 and March 2004 when this line is claiming it was. It certainly wasn't the cause of any of the problems there. - Atfyfe (talk) 01:55, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
