Apparently these are two songs not one
editThe title is the only resemblance between a) the Harry von Tilzer music with William Jerome words, and b) the folk song.
Not to encourage original research here, but rather to help editors toward finding their reliable tertiary sources:
Here is a 1912 score for (a) And the Green Grass Grew All Around.
Here is an 1890 book containing The Everlasting Circle, a song that includes the words "And the Green Grass Grew Around, Around" as well as a sequence of twig, bird, nest, feather, etc. It very much resembles (b) the cumulative folk song. It does not resemble (a).
