editGiven that Andrè Ungar is an important liturgist and leader in the liberal Jewish world, it is of my opinion that Wikipedia honor his notability. - Jonah Rank
- If he is notable you need to give some secondary sources which write about him in more than just one sentence. Please read WP:N to get an idea what notability means on Wikipedia. Thank you. Optimale Gu 16:45, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
American Apartheid
editRabbi Ungar was involved in the anti-racism movements in the US south in the 1960s and, if I understand correctly, was a supporter of MLK (and I think a correspondent and possibly a personal friend as well). I recall my mother retelling how he went to Alabama to walk with King from Selma to Montgomery (I have not personally researched this, however). This should not be surprising, given as this activist had also decried the apartheid policies of South Africa and was sternly ejected from that nation. I think it would be worthy for someone to investigate and expand on this aspect of his lifelong work.
I see that the Temple Emanuel website has dropped his profile as rabbi emeritus. That would not be surprising, given his age.
