"till" removed in sentence about early performing career. "till" means an action that a farmer takes in moving or tilling topsoil. "until" is the proper word choice here.

Removed mention of doctorate

I deleted this sentence: "He obtained a doctorate in music from Colgate University of Hamilton and served as the university's composer in residence from 1970 to 1972."
