Where was VanWyngarden born?
editAccording to WikiAnswers, "Actually [Andrew VanWyngarden] lived in Memphis, Tennessee for most of his life. He was born in Columbia, MO." If anyone has a solid reference, please update the article accordingly.—GraemeMcRaetalk 05:01, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Childhood
editI think it's worth noting that he spent eight years of his childhood in Pittsburgh, PA, before moving to Memphis, TN. He's mentioned it in several interviews; there's no reason why it shouldn't at least be mentioned. Jrk394 (talk) 19:01, 7 July 2011 (UTC)jrk394
Missing information: Multi-instrumentalist
editThis article covers his background and influences quite well, but nowhere in the article does it mention that he's a multi-instrumentalist or that he plays drums and bass.
This info is taken from the insert for the CD release of Congratulations:
Drums: he's credited with drums on tracks 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 of Congratulations, with track 4 being the only song of those where he shares drumming credits with Will Berman. The drumming in those songs is often fast-paced and fairly complex. I think it's safe to infer that VanWyngarden is a skilled drummer.
Bass: he's the only bassist on 1, 2, 3, and 9 of Congratgulations, and he shares bass credits with Matt Asti and/or Will Berman on tracks 4 and 6 as well.
So... in light of that information it seems a little misleading for the article to open with "Andrew VanWyngarden (born February 1, 1983) is the lead vocalist, guitar player and songwriter for the band MGMT." The sentence isn't exactly false, and it's spot on for the live shows, I'm sure, but I think it would be more informative and consistent with other wikipedia articles on multi-instrumentalists to reword the beginning of the article to something like "Andrew VanWyngarden (born February 1, 1983) is an American multi-instrumentalist best known as the lead vocalist and songwriter for the band MGMT."
Then a new section could be added called "Instruments" which would point out the different instruments that he's credited with on all MGMT albums, which include guitar, piano, bass, drums, synths, electric sitar, and harmonica on Congratulations alone (I don't have physical copies of the other albums yet)
Anyone have any advice on how to smoothly integrate that information into the article? I'm also not quite sure of the proper way of citing an album insert in a Wikipedia article.
This Person NEEDS his own Wikipedia Article
edit- Comment - This person is more than notable, he's one of the two members of one of the most popular alternative rock bands in the world. Songs he's written and performed have been in many Hollywood movies as you can see on his IMDb link. He's been nominated for a Grammy award. He's been written about many times in huge papers like the New York Times and Spin Magazine, huge articles so he IS notable.12.196.37.227 (talk) 21:07, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- Agreed. This musical artist is more than notable to warrant their own Wikipedia page.98.151.53.27 (talk) 04:03, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Rhodes?
editAt the instrument section, it says "Rhodes", and when you click on it, it says that it's a city. Why is there then? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.7.81.4 (talk) 05:46, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
