editI'm working on a project to create nice big articles for all the constellations on the French Wiki, which I could spin off here. I've already created Andromeda. Anyway, we'll have nice big non-stubs for constellations such as Perseus, Cassiopeia, Cepheus, and Hercules. I intend therefore to put these articles at Perseus (constellation) and so forth as I've done for Andromeda (constellation).
My question is, shall I move the mythological figure to Andromeda (mythology) and set up Andromeda as a disambiguation page, or not?
(En passant, I highly doubt that the Greeks called the sea monster in question Kraken. I've usually seen it called Cetus, like the constellation.) Montréalais
- Exactly. Another, colder sea. I've just removed this reference. Wetman 13:05, 26 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Whatever you do just make sure that you fix any misdirected links. I would check aks user:Bryan Derksen about this, he is working on a WikiProject for astronomical objects already. See Solar system/Factsheet template. --mav
I restored the article that was merged to Boast of Cassiopeia by User:-Ril- for the following reasons:
- There was sufficient material to justify the article as it was and further edition will make it "worth being seperated";
- This article was about a character, not a story;
- The job was not complete since a lot a pages link to this article (not to mention all interwikis).

no merge
editIf someone wants to do all the work, and not mess things up, fine, make Andromeda the disambiguation page, and rename the current page as andromeda (mythology) or the such. Leaving it alone is just as good an idea, and for this reason have removed the suggestion that it be 'merged'. --FourthAve 00:58, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Aethiopians/ Ethiopians
editI'm a little confused - Andromeda, Cepheus and Cassiopeia are referred to in various places as 'Ethiopians', with a link to the page on the modern N African nation. However in the linked page 'Boast of Cassiopeia', the author has specified that these three are 'of the royal household of the Aethiopians', which is not the same thing.
Regarding Aethiopians vs Ethiopians
I believe they are the same thing, Aethiopians is just an older spelling. It's the same with "AEgyptians" and Egyptians. It has something to do with latin-- the AE combination.
Though I did find this: Aethiopians: People at the eastern and western edges of the known world
Mentioned here: http://daphne.palomar.edu/jeighmey/physical/Human%20Adaptation%20and%20Variation_files/frame.htm#slide0005.htm
I'd leave it how it is.
The spelling does not matter - however the mythological Ethiopia is not the same as the modern Ethiopia. See Ethiopia_(mythology).82.35.33.42 00:58, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Orecalimo

Attempted merge
editI attempted to merge in Boast of Cassiopeia: most of that article was a copy of this one. Cwolfsheep 13:35, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- In doing so, you detached an image from the Andromeda article. The image is still visible on Gustave_Doré's page, as well as on an archived version of the Boast of Cassiopeia article. --206.248.129.120 15:47, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Andromeda Media Server
editThere once was a page for this (see Zina disambiguation).
- I wanted to add a new stub for this, and link it from this article, as well as correct the link from the Zina disambiguation article. However, I was unsure whether there is a standard for what to put in parentheses, e.g., Andromeda (software), Andromeda (web streaming server), Andromeda (server). The homepage for this is apparently http://www.turnstyle.com/andromeda/ .Evil1987 23:16, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
Remove Expert Attention.
editAfter studying the myth and comparing it to the article, I see no reason not to remove this tag. Should somebody see the need to re-add it, please do so. For now I will replace it with a clean up tag. Christophore 22:34, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Ankhesenamen and Andromeda
editPerhaps, Andromeda was the same person with Ankhesenamen.
Consequently,
- Zannanza should be indetified with the "Sea monster" of Greek myth.
- Akhenaton should be identified with Cepheus[disambiguation needed].
- Nefertiti should be identified with Cassiope.
- Ay should be identified with Phineus.
Perseus born in Chemmis (a ancient Egyptian city near Panopolis) (see Herodotus Histories). He was, originally, an admiral of Egyptian Navy.
He defeated Gorgons, an pirate people ( ~ Careans) of South Asia Minor or Cyprus (e.g. Golgi, an ancient Cypriot city) and killed its queen Medusa. So, he became famous.
Later, he undertook (by Egyptian nationalists) to assassinate Zannanza, an Hittites prince, son of Suppiluliuma I.
He should give Ankhesenamen ( = Andromeda) to Ay (= Phineus) but, indead, he drive Andromeda and his fleet to Argos of Greece.
More beautiful than Hera or the Nereids?
editIn the myth section, it says 'Her mother Cassiopeia bragged that she was more beautiful than Hera' but in the 'Portrayals of the myth' section, the article says that the 'Clash of the Titans' movie changed the story so that Cassiopeia boasted that Andromeda was 'more beautiful than Thetis as opposed to the Nereids as a group'.
Elsewhere on the internet, e.g.
http://www.astronomical.org/portal/modules/wfsection/article.php?articleid=1 http://www.getty.edu/art/gettyguide/artObjectDetails?artobj=113646 http://www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=macgregor&book=greece&story=andromeda
the story is that Andromeda was compared to the Nereids.
