Improper redirect?
editDuring the course of two days only in September, an article was created by Libdemeditor, then curated with top tags by John B123, then redirected (to section of election results) as a preference to deletion by TimothyBlue. Obviously with this timescale, there was no WP:PROD, or WP:AFD.
This I believe may be improper procedure - particularly considering the timescale, as it prevents/prevented any editor from expanding the article, per the banner. The reasons cited - failure to meet general notability requirements - are now consigned into the history; the initial edit summary should also be noted: "Creation of page for third directly elected Mayor of Mansfield. As it is the only DE Mayor with no wiki page" - so, now breaking an established sequence.
Andy Abrahams was Labour's 11th-hour choice, due to the pre-election unexpected withdrawals from Bradshaw and McCallum respectively (see this Google search); a third-line choice perhaps explains why Abrahams had no prior press coverage, followed by routine reporting. Addition of good relevant article content has therefore been prevented by one editor's decision to create a redirect out of a stub bio. Probably it would/will remain as a stub.
I follow a very experienced editor whose main thrust is places, not people, and has experienced similar deviation from procedure recently, resultingly mentioning WP:DRV. I'm also aware of WP:redirects for discussion.
Suggest this be self-reverted into a bio article for the reasons given, thus allowing for natural expansion. I am not connected to any individual or party, and have no need to declare WP:COI, just have local knowledge. This is not a case of IAR, just applying common sense instead of dogma.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 09:51, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- My initial concern was that notability was not establish as per WP:POLITICIAN (Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage). Notability is not inherited, so the fact other Mayors of Mansfield have individual articles is irrelevant. I have no objection to it being reverted to an article provided someone has the inclination to establish notability. --John B123 (talk) 10:36, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- You did the right thing. I think not simply Mansfield Mayors, per (the cat) Directly elected mayors in England and Wales. There is more background content here but somewhat pointless given the finality already demonstrated. I am more of an inclusionsist, I suppose.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 10:52, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- Now checked a good sample, all have articles as the OP stated, a good stub comparison would be Paul Dennett.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 11:00, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- Rocknrollmancer, Since the redirect was objected to, I will revert and use the RfD/AfD process. // Timothy :: talk 13:18, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
