2024 Match

edit

@Newfoundlandguy So as not to get into an edit war, let's chat about it.

Mentioning the match is probably fair enough, since it has been written about in various sources. But to me the problem is the way it's being framed; the inclusion of Alsalem's tweet strikes me as a fairly obvious violation of WP:UNDUE - why should one person's tweet (especially when that person is known for having some incredibly partisan views) be presented as representative of anything but that one person's view? Additionally, the way the IBA disqualification is framed leaves out significant context. AntiDionysius (talk) 13:57, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Jomini1291 should probably tag you too AntiDionysius (talk) 14:27, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
yeah maybe mentioning the tweet is unnecessary.
{ Reem Alsalem, the United Nations Special rapporteur on violence against women and girls, tweeted about the match, writing, “Angela Carini rightly followed her instincts and prioritized her physical safety, but she and other female athletes should not have been exposed to this physical and psychological violence based on their sex."[1]}
imo this part isn't necessary, the other paragraph is fine though Jomini1291 (talk) 14:30, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for reaching out @AntiDionysius. Perhaps the full quote is too much, but some reference to the controversy and concerns over the fairness of this match is warranted. If it works for you I can paraphrase what she said as neutrally as possible. Newfoundlandguy (talk) 14:31, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps a more general mention of the controversy rather than focusing in on Alsalem's comments specifically? I'm not sure what the best way to phrase that would be. Perhaps something like "the match result renewed criticisms of Khelif's inclusion in the competition..." AntiDionysius (talk) 14:41, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Suggest removing “for failing testosterone” as this is not supported by the source provided which claims the exclusion was based on chromosomes. And BBC is reporting from the IBA that it was specifically not a testosterone test. Suprcel (talk) 15:08, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think the original text mentioned both testosterone and chromosomes but some drive-by IP edit removed half the sentence. It is a strange one - the IBA is claiming very specifically that it was a chromosome test while the IOC say they've seen IBA records which say it was a testosterone test. Which is why I think it should just be left at was disqualified. Since we don’t know exactly why she was disqualified, maybe “disqualified for not meeting eligibility standards” Suprcel (talk) 15:13, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, that makes sense AntiDionysius (talk) 15:16, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Great I've made that change. Newfoundlandguy (talk) 23:10, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
This line needs to be removed without a credible and verifiable source; Carini's coach later commented on concerns regarding her safety, highlighting the controversy surrounding the International Olympic Committee (IOC)'s decision to allow Khelif to compete.. The source listed is a Fox Sports Australia news article with only a 1:36 and 5:52 minute video regarding the match. There is no quote from the coach in either text or video form on this source, instead it is completely non objective commentary. If there is a direct quote from the coach, that source should be inserted instead of the current source, but with the available information, this should not be included as written. 2601:1C2:200:3C30:C00:9250:15DF:E39D (talk) 22:50, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
is the coach the only source for the physical safety thing? There is a statement from USA boxing disputing it but I can't find other reporting supporting it. 100.36.18.81 (talk) 03:48, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Police in personal life

edit

The given source for her being in the Police doesn't say that. She was part of the youth boxing wing of the state police sports team, which does not imply she is a policewoman herself. This should be removed unless there is a source backing up the claim 2600:1014:B037:D1BA:5930:D909:A18B:B64F (talk) 03:41, 4 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
