Hello Wikipedians. I will be making some edits to this article. First, I noticed that the article's lead section mentioned her being an Illinois Poet Laureate, but this does not come up in the remainder of the article. This will help align the article more closely with Wikpedia’s guidelines about the lead section, in which they advise that everything in the lead section must be mentioned somewhere else in the article. I also plan on adding short paragraphs introducing the lists in the article (the awards, poetry, plays, novels, memoir, and anthologies lists) to add a bit of context and help the work section to flow better. After researching about Jackson, I noticed she has had various influences during her career. I plan on adding an “influences” subsection to the “career” section. Adding a “reception” section will also increase the article's depth, as I think such a section is essential in an article that discusses a public figure in the writing world. I also noticed that the personal life section is limited in its current information. Wikipedia’s guidelines highlight the importance of giving equal weight to each section of an article, and this currently seems to be an outlier compared to other sections. I plan to add more information to this section.
