Spanish American wars of independence

Hello Eastfarthingan. This war must not appear here. The other two examples he gives have a notable difference, England had an alliance with Portugal and the United Kingdom with the Spain of Isabel II. The troops sent to support those countries clearly had the patronage of the government. There is not point of comparation. There was no alliance between the United Kingdom and the revolutionary governments of America, the mercenaries were not sponsored by the government, they fought on their own and under private contracts. In addition, it cannot be ignored that British weapons were on both sides. --Muwatallis II (talk) 21:50, 20 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

It was covert support. From the Pan-American Centennial Conference Great Britain lent to the liberty of Spanish America not only the support of its diplomacy, represented by Canning, but also an appreciable contingent of blood and it may be asserted that there was no battlefield in the War of Independence in which British blood was not shed. There was never an alliance with Spain and the American colonies from 1778. You say the war must not appear? Let's leave that judgement to the sources (of which there is a mountain of) as it seems you want to discount any role played by Britain despite this being sourced. The difference with Spain and the American colonies is that the Spanish government made a governmental effort to support the American colonies. The British government in the Spanish-American War of Independence did not carry out any governmental effort. How many weapons and soldiers did the government secretly contribute? Paid by the government ?. British merchants certainly sold weapons, but they are not the British government, they are private, the only thing they were interested in was to benefit, not in vain, they also sold weapons to the royalists. The mercenaries, as I repeated earlier, came on their own. Do you understand the difference? --Muwatallis II (talk) 22:41, 20 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Britain too made a governmental effort albeit a clever covert one see Castlereagh and Canning's roles. The mercenaries had British uniforms and had their colours too. Plus Royal Navy were in command of the oceans and blocked Spanish aid to South America - they were a decisive factor in the struggle for independence of certain Latin American countries.
