Something you can’t read about and won’t see in a movie: Angoville-au-plain-town of 40 people in 1944 and 53 in 2007. There is an important WWII story of 2 American medics who tended to 80 casualties in the church at Angoville au Plain. The church is only about 2000 square feet. The two medics working day and night without food or rest for 72 hours lost only 2 soldiers and an 8-year-old boy. Meanwhile, outside, the town changed hands 7 times during a bloody battle between American and German forces which leaves battle damage visible to this day. There are still bloodstained pews, and the church still holds services. The church in which these two medics worked was dedicated in the 11th century to two martyrs who were doctors.

Actually, this is pretty accurate. Of course, we need to find sources to back it up. I have their little brochure, but I'm sure we can find better.... The current population is 41, I believe. Nice photo and the basic story here and photos of the stained-glass windows being installed. I can't remember if the story shows up in SLA Marshall's Night Drop, but I don't think it does. --Habap (talk) 21:23, 9 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
