Unwritten Rules
editI've been observing the two Animusic compilations and noticed they all follow some base rules. I wasn't clear where they should go in the Wiki page, however. I feel they should stay in the page somewhere, because although they are a little specific to how the animation works, it isn't too technical. It can be something the audience can enjoy looking for. -- THEBlunderbuss (talk) 20:58, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- The instruments don't usually play all the notes (Like the dulcimer in Acoustic Curves, the vibes in Future Retro, the purple bass in Starship Groove, the red beams in Heavy Light, etc.)
- That isn't necessarily a guideline
- "May" does not denote a rule.
- The instruments don't usually play all the notes (Like the dulcimer in Acoustic Curves, the vibes in Future Retro, the purple bass in Starship Groove, the red beams in Heavy Light, etc.)
- -75.61.70.203 (talk) 16:27, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
And one more: Once an instrument starts playing, the camera will turn to its position for at least 5 secs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xq 010 (talk • contribs) 06:52, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Another instrument that doesn't play all of its notes is/are the chimes on Aqua Harp. Only five notes are played. Also, I've noticed that whenever there's a base instrument, it's almost always colored blue or violet (with variations). (Exceptions: the double-bass on Resonant Chamber, The green "wow"s on MB&W, Mr. Stick on Stick Figures, the bass on Aqua Harp, and the bass on Pogo Sticks.) dogman15 (talk) 23:27, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- That isn't really a "rule", although you noted that. Besides, if an instrument don't play all of its notes, it just makes it look neat and nice. Would Aqua Harp look pretty with only a few chimes hanging all over the place? O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 19:40, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- I know this isn't relevant, but that reminds me of that production still from Future Retro where the bass guitar laser had clumps of notes in two or three and spaces in between them. -75.61.66.89 (talk) 16:02, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
If Dogman15 calls the blue bass as a rule, I can say other rules are that the sawtooth lead is always on red lasers (only in magenta twice in Harmonic Voltage and Stick Figures), electric guitar is always green, and synth chorus is almost always blue or cyan lasers.--221.1.23.60 (talk) 08:50, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
These "unwritten rules" shouldn't go into the article, as original research isn't allowed. See WP:PSTS 65.170.234.10 (talk) 04:37, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Instruments
editOkay, I know I once changed all the xylophones into marimbas, but I now know that they aren't. I wish for everyone here to stop calling them marimbas because maribas have tubes under the blocks for the sound to resonate. The instrument in Animusic don't have them. Change them back? And the area under the harp in Aqua Harp, they don't have bells. They're all chimes. Who put that in the article? And in Starship Groove, the light's and the ship's laser sounds come from the players' drums and synth pads. And in "Cathedral Pictures," the pyrotechnics don't make sounds. O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 23:29, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- Two tiny bells under the viola and the cello as decorations. Those are the bells. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.246.18.21 (talk) 00:59, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- But they're not instruments, though. And they aren't bells, they're weights to make the strings of the viola and cello taut.
O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 02:31, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- If you look closely, there are tubes under the instruments in Stick Figures and Cathedral pictures. -75.61.74.65 (talk) 18:31, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- And also, while real marimbas do have tubes under them, real lasers don't make sound, real robots can't be heard in space, and instruments don't play themselves :). -76.252.218.50 (talk) 03:08, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Can anyone listen to this discussion? I don't want Wikipedia giving out false instruments. --72.80.9.60 (talk) 02:28, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- I would note that the pyrotechnics in "Cathedral Pictures" are either synched with tom-toms or do in fact make percussive bursts of several bass notes. (Correction: tympani, not tom-toms) -- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.223.201.239 (talk) 20:05, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, there aren't any timpani in Cathedral pictures. The pyrotechnics are in sync with the tom-toms. The "noises" sound too high to be timpani.
About the pyrotechnics in Cathedral Pictures: If they don't make any sound, then what are those loud explosion noises that the tom-toms clearly don't make themselves? And with the white speakers in Starship Groove, the robots and drum sets are definitely not making those zap and buzz sounds. They're being made by the speakers. Just check the videos. They all make sound. -76.252.218.50 (talk) 03:05, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- The loud explosion noises are just loud explosion noises. The pitch is done by the tom-toms. The speakers make the sound; Wayne called them light speakers himself. O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 14:42, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- And the explosion noises are synched to the explosives. Simple as that. -75.61.67.208 (talk) 16:25, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Images Again
editOkay, this is more important. There seems to be something wrong with the images on Wikipedia. Did someone get rid of them? The Unknown Hitchhiker 00:09, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, they did. We didn't need a screenshot for every single animation, and all of them are not free. Although these images were deleted by a bot, because no rationale for fair use was given. See Wikipedia:Fair_use#Images for more info. — Kjammer ⌂ 16:39, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- It is stated on the website that the images from the downloads page (which are the ones that were used) are free to use and share ("We've just released Animusic 2 screensavers and desktop wallpaper... Grab and share, free of course, on our downloads page." (sic); "HD video, iPod video, screensavers, wallpaper... All free! Grab 'em and share!" (sic)). I think this means that we can use these as example images and Animusic wouldn't get mad at us. But... they were a waste of space and made the page look too convoluted, so I wouldn't put them back if I could. -75.61.70.203 (talk) 17:03, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, and we really need another image to replace the Pogo Sticks one that magically got messed up. -76.252.218.50 (talk) 03:12, 15 November 2008 (UTC) (the same guy as above)
- (As if it were my job,) I finally got around to getting an Animusic image in. Months ago, we had a Pogo Sticks screenshot. Well, I uploaded my own (details on the file page), and cropped it to a stylish 2.35:1 aspect ratio, something not seen on the DVDs. dogman15 (talk) 20:30, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Images
editThe images in this article are great, but there are so many and so poorly formatted that they detract from article instead of add to it as they should. I think this article could benefit from what was done on this one. The list and images are contained in a table, with the list of the left and the image on the right. It takes a great deal of patience, experimentation and time, but may be the only way to correctly format the text & images.
I don't have time to do it right now, but wanted to throw it out there in case someone else wants to take a crack at it. :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 16:09, May 16, 2005 (UTC)
Resonant Chamber
editI'm just wondering where did you find out that the name of the last track is "Resonant Chamber"? I have never seen anything about it. Thanks. --68.163.62.180 01:25, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
- You dont know? Watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toXNVbvFXyk 47.156.111.90 (talk) 00:13, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
That's a good question for 150.135.161.90. Even in information from the newsletter e-mails, there's no mention that I can find of "Resonant Chamber". They've only provided pictures of and openly talked about 6 of the 8 animations on their website, and briefly made a passing mention to Pipe Dream 2. Codernaut 06:12, August 22, 2005 (UTC)
Well, I guess one of them actually is called Resonant Chamber. But I'm still wondering how they found out the name such a long time ago. --68.236.9.57 03:56, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Resonant Chamber is once named 'Guitar Lute'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xq 010 (talk • contribs) 06:50, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Music types
editWhat kind of music would fellow readers/editors class each track as? I understand the cathedral animation from volume 2 is playing variations on Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, for example. -- 24.33.86.87 06:30, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- It's too hard to tell. A few are clearly rock (Future Retro) or techno (Starship Groove, Fiber Bundles), but some (like Pipe Dream and Harmonic Voltage) have me stumped. I'm not a music expert. -75.61.74.65 (talk) 18:35, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Nostalgic parallel
editSeeing this on TV strongly reminded me of George Pal's Puppetoon "Tubby the Tuba," though I'll leave it to more knowledgable editors to decide if it's a relevant antecedent. Jeffreykopp 06:37, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- I listened to a Tubby the Tuba CD, and the only similarities I can see/hear are that both albums (Tubby vs. Animusic 1+2 CDs) are musically enriching. dogman15 (talk) 19:57, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Animusic 3 DVD
editWhen will the Animusic 3 DVD be release on what month, day or year?
- They don't know yet, but are working on it. [1] --Hobbes35 20:19, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- They'll relase it on September 11,2010.[2]- -Drdilong20:19,22 March 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.215.11.52 (talk)
- Ahem. No one knows that. The date was not released by the Animusic Team.
- O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 15:11, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- Drdilong's claim is false, because its already past that. Paddle Ball, Sonic Warfare and Super Pipe dream are the known songs. 47.156.111.90 (talk) 00:19, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
but i found a photo of 'Super Pipe Dream' in Animusic offical websites.Gman the stalker (talk) 00:08, 2 January 2009 (UTC) That doesn't mean anything about the release date. -76.252.219.9 (talk) 17:00, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
YouTube links
editThis article is one of thousands on Wikipedia that have a link to YouTube in it. Based on the External links policy, most of these should probably be removed. I'm putting this message here, on this talk page, to request the regular editors take a look at the link and make sure it doesn't violate policy. In short: 1. 99% of the time YouTube should not be used as a source. 2. We must not link to material that violates someones copyright. If you are not sure if the link on this article should be removed or you would like to help spread this message contact us on this page. Thanks, ---J.S (t|c) 05:38, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Instrument names and descriptions
editHello all. I added (and subtracted) some bits and pieces from the instrument descriptions on both the Animusic 1 and 2 tracklistings. What was there was good, however some of the definitions - like 'synth pad' were at times incorrect, and others (like Ultraviolet Laser) could be reduced to 'violet laser'. Also, I replaced all mentions of 'banjo' with 'acoustic guitar', as this resembles it a little more closely. I hope I didn't offend anyone! --Hobbes35 01:06, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Opening statement
editBased on listening to the director's comment (Wayne Lytle's) on both DVD 1 and 2, I find following statements misleading and replaced them with a more neutral POV, "Sustained sounds are used relatively sparingly. Most instrument sounds are stock patches available on digital keyboards, subjected to no manipulation, aside from pitch / playback speed, to enhance their timbre." Green lasers in "Starship Groove"
editI think the green lasers in Starship Groove don't actually make any sound. At least, I can't hear it. -76.246.18.21 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 01:02, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- That's true. The base sounds come from the robot with the base synth pads. If you look closer, you can see him playing it. O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 02:31, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

editAnimusic 3 DVD will be released in 2010. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.245.10.62 (talk) 20:39, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- This is not true, because the Animusic team have not released the date.
Actual Release Date?
editThe release date is not cited on the website. However else was this known? --Nebula2357 (talk) 21:03, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- That's true. I believe the release date is a hoax. Readied for deletion.
Animusic 3 Track Listings
editThis is obviously a hoax, since Wayne Lytle himself said in his newsletter that there are eight animations planned for the third Animusic. And if you look at it, the track isn't aligned correctly and wasn't corrected at all by the original contributor. And the track listings also sound a little too strange for the Animusic team to name them. I mean, who would name their tracks Finale part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, and The Real Finale? So I have deleted it.
Hammered Dulcimers
editI don't think that the instruments in Acoustic Curves and Cathedral Pictures are actually hammered dulcimers. I've listened to sound clips of hammered dulcimers and they don't sound anything like these instruments. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what they actually are (they used to be referred to as "hammered harpsichords," which was obviously an oxymoron). -76.230.238.45 (talk) 14:04, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with you in Acoustic Curves--The golden instrument sounds more like a bass guitar. But I don't know about the one in Cathedral Pictures.
- O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 22:56, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- Wait, I correct that. The instrument is more like a guitar, and the low notes in Cathedral Pictures sound more like what a piano would make.
- O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 15:14, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- No, I correct that again. It's not a piano in Cathedral Pictures, but I didn't hear what a dulcimer would sound like in low notes.
- O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 02:21, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- And I correct my reply once again, hopefully for the last time. The ones in Acoustic Curves do sound like Hammered Dulcimers, until they hit the low notes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Unknown Hitchhiker (talk • contribs) 23:25, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Chinese Writing?

Glitches
editDo you think it would be a good idea to make a section that lists some of the glitches found in Animusic? For example, the violin shifting places in Stick Figures and the fireworks cannon disappearing in Beyond the Walls. Tell me what you think. -75.61.66.89 (talk) 02:31, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- If you're thinking of listing glitches, don't forget the main yellow laser in Beyond the Walls. After its platform flies away, it recieves note instructions that are higher than it is capable of playing. The laser goes over too far to the right and turns off before the notes lower and it comes back on. dogman15 (talk) 06:59, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- It's not a violin; it's a guitar. But I think including glitches would be a little too trivial, yes? O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 14:47, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Do you think I should also mention notes on an instrument that play more than one pitch? For example, in Fiber Bundles, the top note on the purple bass plays both an A and a B, and the orange one shifts down an octave in the middle of the song. If so, we might want to title it something more like "Glitches/Abnormalties." -75.61.66.89 (talk) 14:29, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- I think you might be making a mistake. O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 14:47, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Article upgrade
editI added a company infobox, the Animusic logo (feel free to improve it), and I moved the Pogo Sticks picture to its mention in the article. That, and some other minor edits. If you want to discuss additions to the infobox (because there are a lot of empty spaces), feel free to do so here. dogman15 (talk) 10:21, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Xylophone or Marimba?
editAfter so long, I still have questions about it. Even though people make the case that none of this is real or possible anyway, I'm still going to put it out there: In the Pipe Dream video (and Pipe Dream 2), is the wooden slide instrument a marimba or xylophone? Marimbas all have resonators, and aren't called marimbas without their resonators. Xylophones, however, don't need resonators. They both sound somewhat the same. O—— The Unknown Hitchhiker 14:50, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- And I also have a question about the Lute in Resonant Chamber: Is there an extra string on its left side? 71.125.234.110 (talk) 15:04, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, it plays a C. -75.61.67.208 (talk) 16:30, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
- Its a marimba to confirm. 47.156.111.90 (talk) 00:28, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
the words xylophone and marimba are often used interchangeably. The most specific definition is that the marimba has overtones at 2 octaves and 3 octaves+minor 3rd while the xylophone has an overtone at octave+5th. In concert percussion both should have resonator pipes. However in Orff Music Classrooms the 'xylophones' are actually tuned like marimbas. A folk instrument may have either name. You cold lern something by looking at the shape of the bar (does it have one arch carved into the bottom or a double arch) but either name is still acceptable — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.116.207.73 (talk) 21:04, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
In my opinion, it's a Xylo because you have a Vib (and the larger of the 2 stringed insterments doubles as bass and harmony/meledy). In addition the ressonince of the bars are fairly short and crisp, unlike the marimba's, who are somewhat crisp at first but mellows out and resonates longer than the Xylo. ♠|RP|♠ 15:18, 11 January 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rlp17 (talk • contribs)

- Can someone please tell me how two YouTube videos by AlbU2B got listed as original SIGGRAPH pieces? Those were made in 2009. Not by Wayne Lytle. -76.204.30.244 (talk) 03:22, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Cathedral Pictures vs. ELP
editWayne Lytle explicitly states that Cathedral pictures was not based on the version by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. He had a similar idea, but tried not to make it sound too similar. -76.204.31.213 (talk) 05:16, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
ORIGINAL Release Date?
editThe re-release date is given for Animusic (#1), but not the original release date. Anyone know when that was? CFLeon (talk) 21:55, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

editWell its October 2013 and Animusic 3 DVD is not out yet. Animusic website has not been updated for a while. What taking them so long? How long do we have to wait for Animusic 3 DVD to be released out? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.251.55.20 (talk) 23:12, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Well its Thanksgiving Animusic website has not been updated for a while. Maybe the release date for Animusic 3 will be late December 2013. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.95.62.39 (talk) 23:32, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- You guys aren't reading the sources cited in this article, like the Kickstarter page, on which they state that they're a year behind schedule due to various issues. Dogman15 (talk) 22:49, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
Lol. I'll leave it at that. JayPeaPhoto (talk) 20:39, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

Company dead?
editThere hasn't been any sign of life from the Kickstarter for more than a year, only a small fraction of the lower-tier pledges have been fulfilled, and neither Twitter, Facebook or their (his?) website has been update since August 2015. Would this be sufficient to update the wiki page to say "project closed / company dead"? WooShell (talk) 18:38, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
- It's still possible to purchase DVDs, CDs, and some other merchandise from their online store. They seem to be out of a few things, like the Blu-ray and some shirt sizes. But as long as one can still purchase things from their site, I don't think it's accurate to say the "company is dead". When does the website's registration expire? Videos played on TV
editWhy no mention of a few of the videos being shown (in their entirety) on TV ?
They appeared on my local PBS station (KAET) here in Arizona.
And, I think, it was in the mid to late 1990s.
I know "Pipe Dreams" was one of them.
Just curious. 2600:8800:22C:F700:3963:697B:36E1:3AD5 (talk) 22:33, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
Animusic Site
editThe Animusic 3 section says nothing about the updates the site's had since it was briefly taken down. Is there any reason for this? 2601:602:C180:E4B0:ADD4:5B5D:8108:9ABE (talk) 23:21, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
