Academic Career
editIt seems to me that if we have a page for such an obviously praiseworthy scholar, we should honor her by mentioning what she was a scholar of. To simply represent her as a black woman who was in academia treats her as an oddity or an explorer, but not as a serious scholar, which she fought to be seen as. Expansion and Sources
editI just expanded this article by adding additional information and some authoritative sources. I used research that I collected for a history paper in college.--Pinko1977 03:04, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
I just added a photo of Dr. Cooper to the article. It is from her 1892 book A Voice from the South.--Pinko1977 21:27, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
Circa?
editShould her birth and death really be circa? It has exact dates. --Awiseman 20:13, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
We definitely know her death date. Her birth date is the only "circa." Like many former slaves, without hard documentation "circa" is usually the best one could hope for. Some former slaves picked their own birthdays based on their parents "best guesses." I will reference to the anthology that I included authored by Ann Allen Shockley but I am fairly sure that she does not have an exact date of birth. (I did not create the article but I did add to the sections about her early and middle years) Ladydayelle 21:11, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. --Awiseman 21:17, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Language, Style
editThe last line in the opening paragraph states she received a 'doctorate degree'. This is incorrect usage in English because both 'doctorate' and 'degree' are nouns. It should either say 'a doctorate' or 'a doctoral degree'. Xuancris (talk) 10:21, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Article name
editThe article is currently named "Anna J. Cooper". It seems to me that she is most commonly known as "Anna Julia Cooper" or even "Anna Julia Haywood Cooper". Is that what others think too? Does an article re-naming seem in order? --Midnightdreary (talk) 16:52, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
- Perhaps so, Britannica, National Park Service and the US passport (p. 26 and 27) have her named as "Anna Julia Cooper". TheKuygeriancontribs

Christian identity
editSeems her faith is being specifically omitted. 2601:2C3:8881:7E20:E11B:9B91:9FF7:23F0 (talk) 00:59, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
