editIs this any use: "Those central characters were missing from the 1981 Anna Karenina opera by the late British composer Ian (sic) Hamilton. Graham, who’d directed that opera, told Carlson that Hamilton had basically reduced the story to “dancing and more dancing, love duets and suicide.”" [1] I can't help thinking that I'd like to hear this version... almost-instinct 13:26, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
New name
editThere is another opera called Anna Karenina. Maybe that needs to be called Anna Karenina (other opera) instead of Anna Karenina (Carlson). In any case what's with the space in Anna Karenina (opera )? almost-instinct 14:58, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
- This was a mal-formed move by User:Saulbeza. I've reverted it. Anna Karenina (opera) already exists as a redirect to the appropriate section of Adaptations of Anna Karenina. - Voceditenore (talk) 15:17, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
- Apologies for my attack of the lowest form of wit. This does rather remind me why my efforts at WP dwindled in the first place: 50% of the time is spent protecting the work produced in the other 50%. I'm intrigued by this opera (I wonder if it would have fared better 30 years later?) Do you think it would be worth my while going to the BL to look at the published score of this and getting a complete cast list? I've always wanted an excuse to start going there. almost-instinct 15:22, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
- I have added this article title to the Anna Karenina (disambiguation) page. Francesco Malipiero (talk) 15:24, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
- I would also like to apologise for calling Hamilton English rather than Scottish. I don't know what came over me! almost-instinct 15:26, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
@Almost-instinct...Probably is worth a trip to the BL. The opera is so poorly documented that I doubt very much if you'll find it anywhere else, and it would be good to have the complete list of roles. It sounds like it sank without a trace after those Los Angeles Opera Theatre performances. The opera company itself sank without trace two years later. - I've dropped a note Chez GuillaumeTell to see if he knows much more. Otherwise .... I go past the BL often enough, won't kill me to start going in :) almost-instinct 19:29, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
