Recommend condensation. The length of the article appears excessive in relation to the subject's importance----Clive Sweeting

"The three wartime novels are widely considered by scholars to be amongst the best to emerge from the second world war". Citation is needed for this bold statement. Other candidates spring to mind including Evelyn Waugh. The article does rather over-egg the cake. Xxanthippe (talk) 09:09, 27 January 2008 (UTC).Reply

Some updating

edit

I decided to work to improve what I thought was a very poor page. When Powell joined the military, it paused for a discussion of how regiments are numbered. It told us that Powell was once E.M. Forster's neighbor, though they never met.

But I must confess that I could not maintain my interest in the subject. I managed the first 5 vols of the Dance and then decided life was too short. I added what info and citations I had on hand, but simply can't sustain my interest. Or Powell can't sustain my interest. The Powell Society's obsessive interest in identifying the "real" people behind the novel's characters are, to my way of thinking, evidence of the problem with these plot-driven novels. If only Powell's characters were alive on the page! Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 02:21, 30 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

What a litany of barely-related points..! This editor's lack of interest (inexplicable to me) in Powell's work is scarcely of relevance to said editor's lack of motivation to edit the article. Nor is it particularly necessary to make an announcement of said lack of interest in terms intended, it seems, to offer a pretext for an amateurish critical assessment of Powell's work! It seems this individual sought to make some kind of "statement" which sadly mars the article talk page as one of only a few comments here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.24.234.181 (talk) 00:06, 20 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree. Powell was recently honored with a Blue plaque and academic interest in his writing has been persistent. The editor did not look with insight at Powell's role in 20th century literature with an experienced eye. The editor's decision not to read A Dance to the Music of Time certainly undercuts his observations.Kmccook (talk) 01:05, 20 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
