Conflict of Interest?

edit

I note that 74% of the article, as it presently exists, was written by User:Wikiant who claims to be the subject of the article. Edit: looks like I misinterpreted a statement that was ambiguous. Wikiant is not to be the subject of the article. However given that there is an ongoing problem with inappropriately promotional material in this biography, and the primary author is Wikiant, I will let the rest of my comment stand:

Wikipedia's Conflict Of Interest policy states that authors in this situation:

  • should disclose your COI when involved with affected articles;
  • are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly;
  • may propose changes on talk pages (by using the {{request edit}} template), or by posting a note at the COI noticeboard, so that they can be peer reviewed;

I recommend the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide which recommends, among other things:

  • Be transparent about your conflict of interest.
  • Do not edit articles about yourself, your family or friends, your organization, your clients, or your competitors.
  • The role of editors is to summarize, inform, and reference, not promote, whitewash, or sell.

User:Isambard Kingdom was right to raise this issue by tagging the article, and it's not a good look for Wikiant to delete that tag just because he isn't the sole author. Clearly he is the primary author. Wikiant, it would be good for you to confirm that you have looked at the policies I've mentioned and that you're going to edit in line with them in future.

At the moment the article has 44 external links. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a platform for social media profiles or resumés. That list of publications and videos should be on Dr. Davies' profile at his work institution, or another site that he controls. The guidance on official web links is that there should usually be one. I will make an edit to bring the article in line with the guideline. MartinPoulter (talk) 18:40, 11 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
