editHistorically these where called Residential Hotels or SIngle Room Occupancy (SRO) Hotels. Most towns and all cities accross the world had these for single workers and traveling sales men and seasonal workers. The economy of scale is commonly understood by comparison to dorm rooms for college students.
Merge with Extended stay hotel
editThe two seem to recover the same notion and service, only the name can change from country to country, for intstance in France the name is rather Appart hotel while in the US it's Extended stay hotel, we just need to mention the different names in the introduction.--Khalid hassani 17:39, 10 October 2006 (UTC) Ianwood53 (talk) 13:28, 4 February 2008 (UTC) I enjoy travelling and do so frequently on business and leisure - the idea of aparthotels is just a way of selling the room to an outside investor for profit (the developer) and a share of revenue (operator)- so in fact the user (ie you and me) gets a room in a hotel...
However what is more in keeping with the apartment and hotel concept, is the Serviced Apartment.
Bard mentions a very good company - I know these people and they offer a very good range of properties and locations - we just need to be able to book online and this would be Nirvana!

Not exactly the same
editI work in the hotel industry in the US, and would not consider all extended stay brands to be apartment hotels. Most of the national brands are designed primarily as hotels that count on more than half of their guests staying for at least a week - but not more than a few weeks. They don't look like apartments, and should not function like apartments. Most don't even offer a monthly rate, but they do typically offer more space and the basic kitchen appliances.
On the other hand, apartment hotels and executive housing properties often appear more like apartments, and they often are. Apartment management companies are now getting into this segment by offering fully outfitted apartments (when available) for short-term guests who arrange the service with an executive housing company. Likewise, brands like Suites of America look just like apartment complexes, and function much like them, while presenting themselves as extended stay suites. -Patrick
I work for a company providing fully furnished and serviced apartments which can be rented from one month to one year. Serviced apartments, aparthotels and extended stay hotels, all with one common desire: to provide a viable economic and more spacious alternative to hotel accommodation. The Apartment Service offers serviced apartments worldwide from one night, whilst Executive Roomspace/Roomspace Serviced apartments offers fully furnished and equipped serviced apartments from 7 nights in a large number of locations in the UK and from June 2007 also in Lisbon. - Bard
I also work for The Apartment Service [1] in London and agree that Serviced apartments and apartment hotels aren’t the same thing. An apartment hotel refers to a hybrid where there is usually a 24 hr reception, room service etc. available. A serviced apartment may be available within an apartment hotel but it is not exclusive to this and can be managed within a residential block without any of the hotel-like amenities. - Chris
hugo hotel image
editis the image of the hugo hotel appropriate for this article? the hugo has been abandoned for years, and does not show an apartment hotel. when it was operational, it was an SRO. i propose removal of the image. Badmachine (talk) 05:50, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
I dont think they are exactly the same. I run a serviced apartment business in Dubai and i can say for sure that these two are not related in anyway.

POV tag
editThis concerns POV tag cleanup. Whenever an POV tag is placed, it is necessary to also post a message in the discussion section stating clearly why it is thought the article does not comply with POV guidelines, and suggestions for how to improve it. This permits discussion and consensus among editors. From WP tag policy: Drive-by tagging is strongly discouraged. The editor who adds the tag must address the issues on the talk page, pointing to specific issues that are actionable within the content policies, namely Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Simply being of the opinion that a page is not neutral is not sufficient to justify the addition of the tag. Tags should be added as a last resort. Better yet, edit the topic yourself with the improvements. This statement is not a judgement of content, it is only a cleanup of frivolously and/or arbitrarily placed tags. No discussion, no tag.Jjdon (talk) 21:12, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
