Manufacturer

Currently there are several links offered as references for the 60/40 manufacturing split between Samsung and TSMC. When I read these refs for the 60/40 split between Samsung and TSMC, they are all just pointing to the same rumor at Re/code. I'm going to replace these references with a single reference to the actual source, the Re/code article. However, I'm not sure we should be giving a lot of credence to the 60/40 split. The Re/code article, which does mention a 60/40 split, says the chip actually analyzed by their source, an IHS analyst, was discovered to be by TSMC. This is in line with reports from the likes of Chipworks, Techinsights, iFixit, etc. who all report only seeing TSMC chips. I haven't found anyone who has actually reported seeing an A8 made by Samsung. Even the chip designation, APL1011, is suggestive since all of the other A10xx chips are TSMC chips while the other Samsung chips are all Axx98. I'm thinking of replacing the manufacturer with just TSMC in the infobox, but adding a note mentioning the possibility of a 60/40 split. That is, the infobox will contain "TSMC^{[note 1]}" with the note superscript linking to a note in the article about the possibility of a 60/40 split. I don't object. I have tore down a couple of iPhone 6's and have yet to find a Samsung manufactured A8 and I hav't seen anyone else find one either. It doesn't mean that they doesn't exist though. It could be that TSMC is contracted to make the first year's worth and Samsung picks up after that, or some other arrangement, like geographical distribution. -- Henriok (talk) 12:07, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

OK, since Iphone10086ipad just replaced the entire manufacturing field with just TSMC, I guess that was sort of a vote of agreement from another editor. I've gone ahead and added the note discussed above. —RP88 ^(talk) 15:42, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
