Who produces Apple A9?

edit

APPLE DOES NOT PRODUCE ANY PROCESSOR. This is big lie. They don't even design it. CPU is designed by ARM and manufactured by SAMSUNG! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.155.240.47 (talkcontribs) 20:23, 9 September 2015‎

You are correct when you say that Apple does not produce the Apple A9. I've removed that phrase from the article. However, Apple unquestionably has designed the Ax series of SoCs. In addition, Apple has held an ARM architecture license since 2008 (permitting it to custom design its own CPU that implement ARM instruction set) and as of the A6 Apple has custom designed the CPU microarchitecture at the core of their SoCs. —RP88 (talk) 22:33, 9 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

The manufacturer ?

edit

Is there any solid evidence of TSMC being the manufacturer for the A9 ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.0.55.11 (talk) 18:28, 26 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

From the blurry die shot in the Apple presentation and their associated comments, we know that the A9 is using FinFet process technology, but as of yet we don't know for certain whether the process technology is Samsung's 14nm FinFet or TMSC's 16nm FinFet. While Samsung is the most likely manufacturer, even that is speculation that can't be confirmed without either a statement from Apple or the manufacturer (both extremely unlikely) or until somebody like Chipworks posts a detailed die shot (in particular cross-sectioned images showing the transistor geometry). —RP88 (talk) 22:31, 26 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

I took a look at TSMC's newest financial report and I highly doubt TSMC is manufacturing the Apple A9. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.0.55.11 (talk) 08:56, 16 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Quote not in quotation marks

edit

Under "Design Discrepancy" there are several statements that should be in quotation marks. Contributor needs to clean that paragraph up.

Microarchitecture section

edit

The content of the "Microarchitecture" section has been unsourced for more than two years. I'm thinking of removing it. Anyone have a source for that section? —RP88 (talk) 15:17, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Add iPhone SE to lead paragraph?

edit

Maybe someone should mention that the iPhone SE uses this chip in the lead paragraph. This fact is included in the article in the last paragraph. 104.228.101.152 (talk) 01:55, 8 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
