Confusing

edit

Why does this and Applications architecture link to Architecture domain when they both say Application and Applications are different? It should be cleaned up but I don't know what way is right.

poor quality article

edit

This article is of poor quality with respect to its content. There are two viewpoints on Application Architecture: that of the context of the application in the enterprise, and that of the structure and composition of a specific application. This article completely misses the first and does a very poor job of describing the second.

This should be separated into two specific articles, one focussed on Application Architecture (i.e. internal architecture) and another on Applications Architecture (i.e. Managing application portfolios to meet business requirements). CoxJul (talk) 16:06, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Application ArchitectureApplication architecture

Per WP:CAPS ("Wikipedia avoids unnecessary capitalization") and WP:TITLE, this is a generic, common term, not a propriety or commercial term, so the article title should be downcased. Lowercase will match the formatting of related article titles.

  • Example: "In this article you will explore a key component of application architecture known as ..."
  • Example: "For example, the role of the enterprise solution architect (ESA) addresses the conceptual/planning level of the application architecture in collaboration with ..."
  • Example: "This chapter defines application architecture and describes how the ...]

And many more. Tony (talk) 08:42, 11 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Comment – instead of a move, we should just repair the inappropiate copying of material from Applications architecture to Applications Architecture back in 2008. Basically it needs a merge back with history merge. Anyone know how to do that? Dicklyon (talk) 16:08, 11 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed Page Merger

edit

{{mergefrom|Applications architecture|discuss=Talk:Application architecture#Merger proposal|date=October 2012}} Both pages cover the same subject. Other changes needed that I cannot make (as a new guy to this editing process):

1. The title for this page then needs to be changed from "Application architecture" to "Applications architecture" to be consistent with the content of the article. There were several instances in the content which referred to the subject in the singular. I have updated these to be consistent throughout the article to always refer to the subject in the plural, as was intended by the authors of the article.

2. This article should be removed from the category "Software architecture" (Application architecture in the singular belongs to "Software architecture", and should be added to the category "Enterprise architecture" (the category which the merged article was assigned to).

3. There will as a result be no page for "application architecture" which is referred to in this article in the first paragraph. Does a stub need to be created for it for subsequent expansion? I am new to editing Wikipedia, and not sure how this should be handled?

Thanks.

Page Merger & Renaming

edit

Following encouragement from RJFJR and constructive criticism from Wtshymanski, I decided to "Go for it" and merged the stub page Applications architecture with this page. References to this merger are at the top of this Talk page (and not on the article page), as directed by the Wikipedia Help:Merging article. I have requested that this page be moved to Applications architecture to get the page's title matching its content. This will mean that the page "Application architecture" will no longer exist. Since there was no content in either of the above pages referring to the discipline "Application architecture", Wikipedia will have suffered no loss. At some point, perhaps, someone could create a page on the topic. I do believe it should be addressed.

Concerning this page with its new title, it still needs extensive work on content, referencing, and style. While not an authority on the subject, I do have some experience in the field and will attempt to improve on the article in the coming weeks. My initial research online and experience as an IT project manager confirm the basic definition currently put forth in the article, and validate the differentiation stated in the introduction between "Applications" architecture and "Application" architecture.

I also changed the category for this article from Software architecture (appropriate only for "Application" architecture) to Enterprise architecture. In addition, I removed the reference in the See Also section to "Application Footprint XML, on the Forensics Wiki". The subject of the XML link refers to "Application" architecture, not "Applications" architecture.

As a Wikipedian new to the editing process, any feedback on my efforts here would be appreciated. And if anyone else reading this has experience in the field and would like to collaborate on improving this article, I would welcome their joining the effort. Thanks.
