Removed item about police officer shooting (no context or links)
editI removed this line "1972 - Police Officer Phillip Cardillo responded to a 10-13 at Mosque Number 7 in Harlem and was shot to death while other responding NY Officers were severely beaten." My reason = there is no context or links to the story and it's not clear how it is significant. If this is note-worthy then please create an article of the episode and link to it from this date page. If not, then please do neither. Thanks, Hu Gadarn 17:39, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- Not important enough to be on this article. Lkjhgfdsa 0 (talk) 18:04, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Surely the sinking of the Titanic should be a noteable date. I think people would be more interested in the sinking of the Titanic than the Georgian language, for example. (no offence to the Georgian Language). Codu (t)⁄(c) • 14:10, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- The Titanic sank on April 15. --213.6.20.203 (talk) 07:53, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- The above is correct. however - the iceberg struck the Titanic at 11:50 pm April 14th ship's time. 70.190.14.184 (talk) 11:09, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
Apollo 13
editIt was listed on the main wikipedia page as occurring then... I think it should be included here. US time doesn't apply in space unfortunately- our times zones only matter on land. ~~ DaRkAgE7 (talk) 01:18, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- In most cases local time is used for events. In this case, there is no local time so doesn't it seem reasonable that the time should be relative to those experiencing the event? According to the astronauts and Mission Control, the date was April 13. Time in space is usually relative to the home base because they often schedule activities based on daytime at the home base (not always). Also, since it was an American event, shouldn't it be listed as it was reported in the American sources? When you look at the Nasa sources it says April 13. It would be confusing to list it on April 14. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 01:28, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- Valid point, and I agreed I suppose. But this makes me wonder why it was listed on the Main Page of Wikipedia and nobody said anything...time. Also, aboard the ISS, UTC is used. Understandably it is an international venture, but I don't feel like arguing- kinda a lame edit war to start. ~~ DaRkAgE7 (talk) 07:25, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Bear with us!
editHow is one's death an event more than it is a death? For instance, didn't Licoln die on April 14? :-| --213.6.20.203 (talk) 07:52, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- Lincoln was shot on the 14th, he didn't die until the 15th. Just as the titanic hit the iceburg on the 14th, but didn't sink until the 15th. ~~ DaRkAgE7 (talk) 18:08, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- i suggest that "Titanic Strikes Iceberg" and "John Wilkes Booth Shoots Lincoln" be placed on "Events" as opposed to "Deaths". An example for the logic behind this is Chernobyl. Chernobyl reactors exploded and melted down on April 26, but no one actually died on April 26 because of this event. The event created a notable point in history in a manner that it caused a historic death or series of deaths at a later time. The events of John Wilkes Booth shooting Lincoln and the Titanic striking the iceberg are notable in the same manner - both events had repercussions that caused notable deaths or notable social changes. 70.190.14.184 (talk) 11:27, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
DJIA Point Changes
editRegarding your blanket reversion of my additions to dates of record point changes in the DJIA with the comment "Regarding your comment that "Not every zig-zag of a single national stock exchange is worth noting," and, "Actually, it is (London, Tokyo, Paris?) and none of these are historic, merely transitory," I find your arguments to be disingenuous for the following reasons:
- This is the English Language Wikipedia. A serious argument can be made that the Dow Jones Industrial Average is the single most monitored stock index in the world, not just in the English language, and it is therefore specious to maintain that it is just "a single national stock exchange".
- The entries I've made were for days in which the DJIA had achieved a record point change. These records are set only very infrequently. It's not that the market hit a record high; that kind of information becomes non-notable usually after a short period of time. These weren't just ordinary "zig-zags". These were days of large consequence to the world of corporate finance.
- Prior to my additions, there were existing precedences for inclusion of the same kind of material, including September 29, October 19, October 27, and October 13. Arbitrary inclusion of some of these and not others seems non-encyclopedic.
- Just because these dates are not memorable for you now does not mean that they were not notable at the time.
- Your actions are of someone who thinks they WP:OWN these articles. If you disagree with the change, it is more proper to talk about them prior to their removal unless the content addition blatantly doesn't belong.

Nelson Mandela
editIt has been reported that Nelson Mandela escaped from prison on this day in 1978. He was captured when he tried to return for a cigarette that a fellow inmate had forgotten to give to him. I think this is relevant and significant and should be included on this page. 78.149.236.115 (talk) 00:46, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Santos Futebol Clube
editSantos Futebol Clube was founded in April 14th 1912. This is one of the most known football clubs in the world, where Pelé played and it is part of Football history. I believe it is a relevant fact to be added to this page, as it is possible to find many other football clubs foundation dates in Wikipedia. Although trying to include, I couldn't. 41.0.176.34 (talk) 09:37, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- Founding dates have no notability of their own. See WP:DOY for further explanation of inclusion criteria. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 10:26, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- When they lack global significance or are not the first of their kind. It could be a matter of interpretation, but it is indeed an important club for this sport. If not so, I can quote September_1#Events (1910) that includes Corinthians, another Brazilian club. 41.0.176.34 (talk) 10:41, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- Using another event as an example isn't a good gauge. Many non notable events get missed. Each event should be argued on its own merits. Swayback Maru Mufka's alternate account (talk) 13:07, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

The Sinking of the Russian guided missile cruiser Moskva

- Those are good references, now you need to find/write a wiki article specifically about this event. Kiwipete (talk) 05:49, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Grouping entries by year
editUser @Kornatice has started grouping entries in the Events section by year. This seemed against the template, so I reverted his changes. He posted a question, to which I replied mentioning the template. In the meantime, he has reverted my revert. Could someone please make a call here? I don't want to edit war nor break the WP:BRD guidelines. Thanks, Kiwipete (talk) 07:06, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello @Kiwipete, I just want to clarify that I left the births and deaths formatted the way they were before for now. I made many changes with my edit that also grouped the births and deaths. Since you reverted the entirety of my edits, I just restored the changes that you didn't object to. Kornatice (talk) 15:35, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
