Article's name
editThe article was recently moved to Apulia First of All from its original name, Apulia First. The former name seems to me a worse translation than the latter. "Apulia First of All" might seem a more literal translation, but sounds me a little bit "macaroni" English. "Apulia First" was and would be better. --Checco (talk) 06:36, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
- And since I have also seen this your new thread: the title of this page (that hasn't even been changed recently) is written in a correct English, I don't know where you have seen the "macaroni English", but the current title is the perfect translation of the Italian name. --Scia Della Cometa (talk) 13:43, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
- "Apulia First of All" is a liteal translation, not a good one. It seems to me that "Apulia First" would be more correct. Indeed, that was the long-standing name of the article. I would ask an opinion on the issue to some native user like User:Autospark, User:Work permit and User:CaptainEek. I also look forward to open a joint thread at Talk:List of political parties in Italy in order to discuss some of your recent moves, which I disagree. --Checco (talk) 07:35, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Checco This page was moved years ago, I have proposed for deletion the redirect (that is an incomplete translation). If you want move this page, you should use Wikipedia:Requested moves, not to open an useless thread in Template talk:Italian political parties or randomly call some users...--Scia Della Cometa (talk) 14:41, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- I want to add another my thought: Your statement that you look forward (sigh) to open a thread against me and my edits is really unhappy, if you disagree with an edit, you should talk to that user and opening a thread on the talk page of the interested article. Opening a joint thread against an user, you would assume a superiority that you don't have at all. This statement denotes a total absence of modesty and an excessive sense of superiority. Rather, learn to behave correctly towards other users' edits and justify your rollbacks...--Scia Della Cometa (talk) 15:42, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right that the article was wrongly moved to the current name years ago. I am sorry abot that misunderstanding.
- While I do not understand why you always need to go personal, I confirm that I will gather some issues at Talk:List of political parties in Italy in order to seek broad consensus. An even better solution would be to have a wikiproject on Italian politics. --Checco (talk) 07:03, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Checco: "You will gather some issues at Talk:List of political parties in Italy in order to seek broad consensus": on what? It is clear that you want to open yet another useless trial against my edits, you've already done it twice more! I would never allow myself to do such a thing. what is it, you are not able to ask for this page to be moved on Wikipedia:Requested moves? And you are not able to deal with one topic at a time? --Scia Della Cometa (talk) 20:19, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

Apulia First of All → Apulia First – While "Apulia First of All" is a more literal translation, "Apulia First" is definitely more correct in English. Indeed, there is talk of "America first", not "America first of all". Checco (talk) 06:35, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose The comparison is wrong: Apulia First is the translation of "Prima la Puglia", while the current title is the correct translation of the original Italian name (La Puglia prima di tutto). "Apulia first" would be an original research. --Scia Della Cometa (talk) 07:37, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- People would hardly say "America first of all" in English. They would say "America first" anyway. --Checco (talk) 12:32, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- Italian people would also hardly say "L'Italia prima di tutto", but however its English translation would be "Italy first of all". In these cases "Prima di tutto" is rerely used in Italian as "First of all" is rarely used in English. But this cannot be an excuse to use another translation, because it would be an original research.--Scia Della Cometa (talk) 13:24, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

- Support it's a more 'direct' and meaningful translation, even if it's admittedly not a literal translation.--31.127.235.133 (talk) 13:11, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- Comment. Why are we translating it at all? If it's commonly seen in translation then we know what the English title is; if it isn't then we use the Italian title. See WP:UE. It's very simple. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:03, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- On this point you are not wrong, surely the original name is better than an invented translation (Apulia First) as I have already claimed other times. however the Italian name is directly translatable into English unambiguously, so I think the current title would be better.--Scia Della Cometa (talk) 08:56, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- Move to La Puglia Prima di Tutto. We simply do not supply a "made-up" translation if it is not commonly known by that translation in English-language sources. Although sadly all too common, this is contradictory to WP:UE. I've never understood why some editors fail to understand this. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:52, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- I strongly oppose this. Political parties' names are usually translated into English in en.Wikipedia. --Checco (talk) 14:25, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- Only if they are commonly seen in translation in reliable English-language sources. WP:UE most emphatically does not mandate translation otherwise. Also note that something with a "normal" name (e.g. Fooian Communist Party) is rather different from a more unusual party name like this one. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:42, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
