There is a curious French booklet by De Nettancourt (C.-J.), Recherches sur l’Acqua Tofana (Paris, Letouzey & Ané, 1888), where the author explains that: 1. the main constituent of Acqua Toffana was an extract of Spanish Fly; 2. Acqua Toffana has been especially used by freemasons, in the nineteenth century, to kill their enemies!!! Hence its name of "Masonic poison"!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.83.11.134 (talk) 07:26, 6 August 2007(UTC)

Aqua Tofana - Aramaic?

edit

There is an exact parallel to this term in the Jewish Aramaic translations of the Hebrew bible (which were always quite familiar to religious Jews). "Mei Tofana" is the Aramaic translation for the water's in Noah's flood, and translates as "waters of the Flood". It is kind of an expression for some kind of "evil waters" which punish people. Is there any chance there is a relation of this term to "aqua tofana"?Jimhoward72 (talk) 18:41, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Opinion? Sarcasm?

edit

The following lines seem to contain opinion:

'Some of her customers purchased with intent and knowledge of the poison; others used it for its advertised purposes and only "accidentally" caused "unintended" deaths. Over 600 victims are known to have died from this poison, mostly husbands of unhappy spouses. '

'All Italy was thrown into a "ferment" and ...'

Why are several words in these sentences in ""s? This suggests they are not facts and as such should not be in the article. Fact versions such as "So and so claimed that they accidentally caused unintended deaths" (redundant - accidentally and unintended mean the same thing here) could be included with citations.--Mazz0 (talk) 11:34, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Update: I've rephrased the line about accidental deaths, but it could be done better and still needs a citation. How do I add one of those "Citation needed" tags?--Mazz0 (talk) 11:43, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Update 2: I've rephrased the line that previously contained the word "ferment" in quotes. If this is put back it should say "according to [whoever said it]" and a citation. --Mazz0 (talk) 11:47, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Aqua Tofana and Die Zauberflote

edit

Reasearch of Mozart manuscripts showed evidence to musicologists Oliver Hahn and Claudia Maurer Zenck that large amounts of Arsenic were found in the manuscript of 'Die ZauberFlöte', the opera Mozart was working on the latest years of his life.

(Can someone please describe this in gentle clear English words? I by accident added it to the article and it now needs review.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 163.158.193.164 (talk) 13:25, 22 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
